Sold out crowd they said. Brutal heat.
According to Drag Race Central, temps were in the low 80's. That doesn't sound too bad. Never the less, cars had a real hard time getting ahold of the track, for whatever reason.

Where do they come up with these crazy horsepower figures? Who decided that all of a sudden the fuel cars gained 2000 horsepower over the winter? 13,000 HP? Really? Sounds like a lot of hype, to me. Even if true, it doesn't do any good if you can't get ahold of the track.

There was also not a cloud in the sky all day so nothing but bright sun beating down on the track the entire day. I think I heard 130 track temp but not sure. Today is going to be very interesting with it being 87-88 out. Should see some good pedalfests and some upsets in the first round. Historically we have always had one or two massive upsets in the opening round and today should be no different.

I heard announcer say track temp was in the 140's at start of Q4 yesterday.

He did a burnout and couldn’t get it in reverse. It took a really long time to get him back to the line and they gave Paul Lee the signal for a single.
He also had to do a quick turn around due to the live Fox broadcast switching the run order, nitro cars before pro stock.

A buddy just sent me a screenshot, looks like he hit the crossover gate. Could have been really ugly.

Well, they’ve been downgraded today to 12,000 hp I just heard.

They’re playing the imperial march again before the crew chief walk prior to round two. I guess I haven’t been listening close enough, I thought they got rid of it. I like that they’re still playing it.

Some of what's left of Capps car. Pretty scary the hole on the side by where his legs would be.

I wonder how these fuel teams budget for the year, since these things like Capps went thru today are part of the sport. How many bodies, engines, and chassis do they figure they will go thru per year? And what happens if they go over budget? Do they go back to the sponsors, hat-in-hand, for more $$? I'm curious about how all that works.

On a happier note, congrats to Paul Lee on his first win today. It's not often that the "Prock Rocket" misses the tune-up. But Lee's team played it conservative and got down the track without smoking the tires.

I'm looking forward to going to Pomona for the "Winternationals" next weekend. I'll be having at least one double-double Animal Style at the track.

I think that was a very special win for Paul Lee and John Medlen and really the whole crew. That was very cool.

My heart sunk when Capps' car slammed into the wall. The parallel to Force's crash was eerily evident. Fortunately, he didn't have the speed Force did at impact.
Side impacts are terrible. They force the neck to bend in ways it is not supposed to. Thankfully, the safety equipment did its job and allowed Capps to walk away and even give an interview within minutes.

Anyone see the video when Ron went to the line to watch Brother Jon, when he said he hates to watch especially his brother run.
I guess unfortunately Jon can say the same now. Thankfully Ron wasn't hurt, but I'm sure he's feeling it today.
