NHRA has always been NASCAR's *****! The whole Pro stock Truck fiasco was NHRA thinking that would be a great way to get more NASCAR fans!
As is "the Countdown" ... just a cheap imitation of NASCAR's Chase with a contrived twist that UNBELIEVABLY NASCAR is looking to imitate by eliminating some drivers a few races before the end.

I would imagine that there are converstations between the major racing organizations every year about schedules and any possible conflicts; especially with so many muti purpose facilities. The only issue this year is we're going to have a race right on top of nascars.

PJ are you talking about the Phoenix race? If so, the story said that NHRA would change it.

Another tempest in a teapot -
This year's AZ NHRA event was held the third week in February, a week after Pomona 1. If the schedule repeats for 2011, AZ event would be Feb 18-20 - no conflict with NASCAR other than competition for fan dollars.
Brian Sperber has done a terrific job of promoting both PIR races and the percentage of seats sold is among the highest in the series.
If NHRA and FIRP care about filling seats after this year's debacle, there had better be a very serious marketing effort. They won't be getting my money in advance for reserved seats next year. I'm sure there will be plenty of elbow room in GA.

"The (NHRA) schedule is going to change," one experienced industry source told CP.com. Monday. "It has to (in reaction to NASCAR.)"
At least the NASCAR officials are working with the NHRA. It's not a very good idea to even stage the races within a month of each other, race fans $$$ is very scarce right now. Also understand that Phoenix races really need to be scheduled for the cooler weather there, so it only leaves a small window.
Perhaps this may serve as a wake up call to Firebird to get their track together......................

over on bobby's site there'a a link to latest WFO radio talk with guest
don prudhomme.........he hit's on variety of issues, some drag racing and
some motorsports in general; makes a comment that it's all about great
leadership that moves an organization.....he cited ecclestone, penske,
gnassi as examples......talked about IRL and their forward thinking into
future discussing reduction of engine size to better reflect the political/energy/environmental age we live in(i.e. how to attract sponsors to racing).
worth a listen.....good stuff.
