So does anybody watch the show? I used to think it was stupid, but then I started watching it starting with season five and "the infamous Elvis episode."

it certainly can be entertaining - have watched it loosely for a few years.
it certainly provides a platform for new talent;
look no further than jennifer hudson's oscar last night - and she was
not a winner nor runner-up

I love the auditions, then quickly get bored by the actual competition ... I just don't have the attention span or care enough about who wins to watch the same people sing week after week.
