Phil Burgess spent the day with 'the Snake' and wrote this tremendous piece.
All 'the Snake's' horses

'The Snake' appeared at Bison Dragways on July 1, 1975 and that was the first time I attended a drag race. It was a day I'll never forget.

Great story. One time I got the chance of a life time to do some lettering for the Snake in Portland on the Skoal car. This was just before vinyl so I did by hand. To me (a young kid at the time) it was like making a baseball bat for Babe Ruth. I'll never forget it.

FANTASTIC article. Good job by Burgess ... and it did seem like the Snake was enjoying himself too ...

First time seeing the Snake was at D42 with that ramp truck. Snake looked like a 19 year old hanging onto the side door looking to park. Been a fan and Snake lover ever since.

Another "priceless" read. I too am a HUGH Snake fan as well. I saw this car win at Minnesota Dragways and have been a hugh fan ever since.

As far as cars of the Snake, I have to go with the Army Arrow. I remember the first time I saw it at Union Grove. Just badass-looking, period. Running, too, for that matter.

the stars, not the cars inevitably move the sport,
but there's no denying certain cars from the past, especially fc's,
are remembered almost as much as their drivers.

Didn't the Firm have a song called "All the Snakes Horses?"

Close Joe, but no cigar. They had a song called "All the King's Horses" and what a good song it was.
