Just saw where Steve Torrence said Alan Johnson will continue to consult for his team.
John Force said Alan was taking over the operation of JFR's Monster Energy T/F car.
Seems like a large conflict of interest and can't see JFR letting that happen.

and don't bury Alan's own team yet either. He might have his finger prints on multiple cars.

I was under the impression between the J. Force interview on WFORadio and the rumors, that Alan's own team is now the Monster Energy/JFR team and he will run it as if it is his own team without JFR interference.

This is all speculation and conjecture, but this is what I was reading into the J. Force interview with Joe Costello.

Maybe Torrence will be a "team" car.

That's a stretch Phillip.

People wanting to slow the cars down and throw innovation out the window. Shorter tracks. Sponsor money getting harder and harder to come by. One person tuning multiple teams. Eventually turns into a show instead of a competition. Sounds like monster jam to me.

]Doesn't Torrence run AJPE parts? If so, consulting for said team is not a "conflict of interest," it's providing good customer service.[/QUOTE Explain that to Force when Capco car beats Monster car.

The Force deal is a time bomb anyway you look at it, and Alan has always helped other teams. It's the nature of selling parts. Plus he knows if guys just blow up every week in short time you will not have anyone to race against.
Same reason DSR helps other low buck teams out with used parts and some help.

This might answer some questions! Look under Force's Team staff and notice Brian Husen is pictured on the Monster crew.

One could argue that the single best fuel tuner currently involved with NHRA Drag Racing is Alan Johnson. Yes, there are quite a few high quality, talented nitro crew chiefs out there, but nobody comes even close to matching Alan's experience & knowledge - his record speaks volumes all by itself. In my opinion, his involvement, no matter the capacity, is a good thing for the sport.

Look at it this way - would anyone complain if, say, Austin Coil announced he was going to come back and be involved in a similar role to what we're "hearing" AJ will be filling? Doubtful.

Another view is this - As much as we all miss the old days (70's & 80's), they're not coming back. Tuner's will continue to tweak and adapt and push the envelope... and some will always be better than others. But the closer they get to 0.00 ETs, the more the performance gap between #1 & #16 will shrink. And in the end, no matter how much changes, the one constant is that driver's have to leave on time and go as straight as physically possible while controlling a machine that's on the mechanical ragged edge. That, and the belching roar of CH3NO2 is what keeps us coming back for more.

Alan Johnson confirmed on Twitter about an hour ago that he will be tuning Brittany Force's dragster for 2016.
