Aj/stevens - 6.466

What obviously matters is how this run compares to other teams testing on the same day, same track and same conditions. Every January someone hits a home run in testing. It's always a good ice-breaker for those of us in cold weather climates, but we need a comparison to see how good this run really is.
 
Great numbers, but hey, it's testing!

I believe AJ broke everyone's back last year in testing with a 49, but he couldn't consistently perform on the track where it counts. Will 2012 be different, guess we'll find out.

Ditto, Michael!

Don't put too much into pre-season Pro Stock testing until you see the final qualifying sheet at Pomona. ;)

Looking at the early numbers, Mark and Jim nailed the set up. Good job AJ and team! .958 in 60ft :eek:

I agree. Yes, this is talent and a remarkable run, and in comparison to others, this is owning the day when the next best is 300th's behind. Great job to the team, but this is 14th year as a fan and EVERY preseason Pro-Stock testing result has been teams rotating the world and then not being as much of a threat when it counts during the season. This is the 2nd year in a row AJ is going to go into pomona owning the pro-stock world based on testing. I would like this year to be different. I would like to see AJ lose the reputation of making plenty of power and dominating at 1 or 2 races a year and being mid pack with consistantcy problems for the rest. AJ has a really good program and has now for the last 3-4 years, there's only 2 things holding him back from a championship:

1. Consistantcy.
2. Holeshot Losses (Car or Allen not the point, they need to minimize them alot more cause he's not Jason Line where the power will allow him to be late and still leave a hundreds on the table. Jeg's back, I bet you he just made the entire class work on trimming there averages even more)

Everyone needs to remember how AJ finished the 2011 season once Jim Yates came on board......two Runner Ups and a Semi Final (which would have been another final round had his car not made a hard move out of the groove while he was leading at 1,000 ft. and he had to shut off). 2012 should be a great season.;)
 
great #s and congrats to the team- but i dont see the names- anderson,line,edwards,coughlin there when i do and they can compare than we will see how the other big hitters do in "testing" mode.
 
Everybody has known for years that a good driver in that car would be a threat!

the mopar/johnson family are trying their damnedest to run with the
summit cars and have/are spending the money to do so.
the fact that allen j. and jason l. are good friends certainly can't hurt :)
i agree lance, j. yates has been around the block a few times.

You hit the nail on the head. I'm obviously a Mopar fan, but AJ has never had any consistency. He's made power equal to the best in the class the last few years, but it has never translated into any type of success. Terrible lights, inconsistent runs that parlayed in to bottom half qualifying, etc. I also believe focus is an issue for AJ. If you read his blog, there sure seems to be an inordinate amount of vacations and partying. I'm all for having a good time, but I'll bet you won't find Greg or Jason hitting the vacation and party circuit. I remember WJ saying he never took a day off, neither did Glidden. The class is tougher than ever. I would think anything less than absolute focus is a ticket for mediocrity.

None of the Mopar cars have ever been consistent. With Jeggie in the class we'll see if it's a Mopar thing or a driver thing. Jeggie is known for his consistency and quickness. We'll quickly find out.

Another factor will be AJ's lack of practice this off season. With surgery on his right bicep, he hasn't pulled the trigger once and won't be able to until Pomona. I don't think it's humanly possible to take three months off from practice, show up at Pomona and be able to compete in the toughest class in the sport. I wish him well.

I know one thing, Jeggie is entering this season with the full expectation of competing for the World Championship. That is his motivation.

Should be fun...

Jason did it last year. Had back surgery and never sat in the car until Las Vegas testing, the Monday before Pomona,

Thanks Alan, I had forgotten that. Realizing that, I can't imagine being on your game when winners are determined by thousandths of a second. That's crazy close!
