[coverattach=1]Qualifying for the Carolinas NHRA Nationals in Concord, NC proved to be quite the challenge for Greg Anderson and the Summit Racing Pro Stock team. In each of the four sessions at zMAX Dragway, the crew worked to match their race car to the track. Further complicating matters were some issues at the starting line which twice forced20Anderson to briefly shut his race car off after making his pre-run burnout. In the end, his 6.665-second, 207.88 mph pass from Friday evening was their run of record, earning an uncharacteristic eleventh starting position for Sunday’s final eliminations.

This snapped a 30-race string in which Anderson had qualified in the top half of the field, dating back to last year’s Summit Racing Equipment Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio. Although the three-time champion was able to win the race that day, he acknowledged that improvement would be necessary in order to duplicate that performance tomorrow.

“This Summit Racing crew certainly has their work cut out for them heading into race day,” said Anderson. “After all, the best thing I can say about our performance in qualifying is that we made the show. Although some might=2 0point to the issues we had with things out of our control on two runs, we still should have run better.

“Our biggest problem is just getting the car off the line. If we can get through low gear, I think we’ll be fine, so tonight we’ll go over our notes from qualifying and testing here at zMAX and come up with a game plan for tomorrow. The answer is in there somewhere, and we are going to find it.”
