Long overdue IMO. For years I've thought the drivers compartment should be sealed off from the outside to keep debris away from the driver. I'm glad to see it's finally gaining traction.

No. there was a cover in place already mandated. This just adds to the protection and I for one am glad to see it.

On a non-suspended car, couplers are required to have a retention device that encompasses the coupler-to-shaft joint, the driveshaft itself does not need to be covered.
