What a waste. I've always felt that if you buy a house built near a drag strip that preceded the house's existence, it should be disclosed before purchase and you should have to sign a waiver saying you can never, ever complain about the noise.

We have Luke AFB in Phx area. You ought to hear what the people say who buy homes there, and that base has been there waaaay longer than the homes. That base is cool, trains fighter pilots from all over the world. Sometimes you can see 2 of them flying in formation, and you can hear them before you see them. YEA!!!

The trailer manufacture that built Jim Dunns trailer is just 20 miles from Shady Maples, and between the Charlotte race and the Las Vegas race I went there to get some work done on the trailer... so during that week I made 3 trips to Shady Maples. On race weekends we never have the time to go there for breakfast but I had heard how good it was so I made sure to try it out and it was just as good as their dinner. But, Wed night prime rib is still my favorite.:)

Agreed! The breakfast is a winner for sure but, Make sure you get there Early!

I was at the office of New England Dragway one day and a new neighbor came in screaming at the track manager that they make too much noise, especially at 9:30, "it sound like everyone starts their cars at the same time". "Yes Ma'am, 9:30 is our start engine time".

If you watch the TV coverage, theres an overpass (North Rd) that runs inline with the track, however if you're on the other side of it, you cant see the track. Back in 2001-02 they built a whole bunch of townhouses over there. I guess these people didn't know there was a dragstrip within a 1/2 mile of their newly purchased home...LMAO!!

The wife and I make the Grove a staple every year. Its almost like therapy, as the ride up from Virginia is one of the most beautiful and relaxing you can make. The setting for the race is pretty unbelievable out in the middle of nowhere :) Very unassuming if you just came upon it.
This year we went out of our way to get to Shady Maple, but it was packed! Maybe we'll try and go earlier next year ;-)

Cliff my parents live in Avondale but years ago lived in Litchfield Park, down the road from LAFB. I could hear them testing in the background when I was talking to them on the phone! And whenever I went out there, we would go into the desert and watch them test. We got close enough to see the pilot in the cockpit when they would do kind of a touchdown and take off again. Absolutely, 100%, badass!
