We had to put down our 15 year old Border Collie, Zoe, this morning.

I can't even express how we feel right now, other than to say she was a really great pup, and we'll miss her tremendously.

It's amazing how much they ingrain themselves into your lives, and how much you love them. And how much they love you, in return...

Goodbye, girl...

Very sorry to read that...they are so smart, too.

I dread the day I have to lose either of my girls.

So sorry for your loss Steve... It has been about a year since I lost my pup as well, so I know how you must be hurtin... :(

Find every picture you have of her- you'll be surprised how much it helps

Thanks for the kind words, everyone.

I know everyone who's a dog lover thinks their animal is special. Well, we've had a lot of dogs over the years, and Zoe truly WAS special. Smart as all get out, she was totally attuned to our feelings, whether happy or sad, and our resident practical joker, herder of animals, and loyal protector.

We still have two Goldens, and they're terrific pups as well. But there will only ever be one Zoe, and we consider ourselves so very lucky to have had her share her life with us...

Thanks again.

Oh, Steve....I'm so sorry! You and yours are in my prayers!

I know how you feel about your baby. They are ALL special!

Steve, I feel your pain. We lost our rottie Nadja just 10 weeks ago and even the cats still walk around her favorite sleeping place. They all hold special places in our hearts, but you are right, some are extra special. God bless. g'

Steve, I am so very sorry to hear about Zoe. This is certainly the part of pet ownership that is so difficult.

I had to put my Mato down last March, and it still hurts when I think of him or talk about him. As you are, I feel blessed to have been entrusted with his care and well being for nearly 15 years. I hope he was as happy as he made me.

Please know that you and your family are in my prayers. Jackee

Sorry about your loss. I know that feeling all too well myself.
15 years is a GREAT life for a dog!

I had to put down my 13 yr. old Akita and my 19 year old cat last year.
I keep telling myself I'll see them again one day.

I'm more than sure your Buddy greatly appreciated everything you did and gave those 15 years.

Time heals, but the memories last a lifetime...:)

To Steve and all those who have lost their furry kids.....

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Author unknown...

I'm sure Zoe is antagonizing and playing with Jake again, as we speak. He moved on in '06. They grew up together, since they were young pups, and were the best of buddies. I take great solace and comfort in the fact they are again reunited, healthy, and happy.

So sorry to hear that Steve. She was a beautiful girl..Jake, too.

I know I will soon be in your shoes with my girl Casey. We adopted her from the shelter in '98 and the vet estimated she was at least a year old then.
In the past year she's lost her hearing and the eyesight is going too.

An ode to the friends that we have lost...

So this is where we part, My Friend,
And you'll run on around the bend,
Gone from sight but not from mind,
New pleasures there you'll surely find.
I will go on, I'll find the strength,
Life measures quality, not its length.
One long embrace before you leave,
Share one last look, before I grieve.
There are others, that much is true,
But they be they and they aren't you.
And I, fair, impartial, or so I thought
Will remember well all you've taught.
Your place I'll hold, you will be missed,
The fur I stroked, the nose I kissed.
And as you go to your final rest,
Take with you this -- I loved you best.
