Just bench racing with some guys at work. We were kicking around the thought if the Donovan or late model 426 was the right way to go nostalgia TF racing? With the availability of the 426 hand me down parts it seems to me the late model 426 would be a cheaper route. Or would a Donovan be better?

For the late model 426, wouldn't you need a short deck? My understanding is that all of the current hand me down parts would be for tall decks. I am assuming you don't want closer to 500 ci, but closer to 426 ci.

Interestingly engine selection is wide open. Several SBC's(with the SB2 head design's) are running. 377 CI and 388 CI.(AJPE BILLET heads and blocks)
Ask Adam Sorokin about how well they run.
Hemi's are easier to find parts for IF you like a belley button motor.
The Donovan holds up well.. AJPE makes billet blocks for bothe the 392 and the 426 easier to find hads and manifolds for the .100 higher deck block though...

Those SBC heads that Champion Speed Shop go for about $20K a set. Or that's Bob said he paid for them.

Vince, put a McGee in it and forget about it.
