RICHMOND - Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

Here is the link as well....

"Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.771/317.05, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.835/314.39, Was #4
Right Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 3.853/312.78, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.866/310.27, Was #8

Fuller improves and moves up the ladder a couple spots, but he had the best seat in the house to watch Schumacher run the quickest pass in the 1000-foot era and second fastest pass of the 1000-foot era. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.829 sec., 330ft-2.115, 660ft-3.010/280.60 mph.
Rod Fuller's incremental times: 60ft-0.852 sec., 330ft-2.169, 660ft-3.080/276.35 mph."

Discussion????

The carnage that will be forthcoming by everyone trying to catch up will be amazing... Does ANYONE have a tuneup that even comes close? (And we all know how much drag racers LOVE to come in second...)

Alan R. texted me today and said it was "Cool, cloudy and fast"... Don't think even he knew that shot was coming...

3.77 is hauling @ss. Haven't seen anything that quick since "the pass".

.77 is about a .43.

yepper, both were fine.... oh, special k's pass.... the head gasket was gone by 150 into the pass... pretty green fire....

and it will take a 4.09 or better to make the show in floppers...

gas floppers, bump will be a mid-.60... air will be dryer tomorrow

d'kid

This pass was due to come.. The track was VERY TIGHT today, and the "Density" was about 1900' for Q2. Seeing the Pro Stock pole @ a .57..and the "Bump" a .62, I kinda thought a 3.70 was possible, (especially after a .83 1st pass) as long as it did not get "WET" at night. I think running the final session at the time they did was perfect for amazing performance tonight.

Lost in this discussion, was the fact that the funny car session was probably the best Qualifying session in history as far as EARTH SHATTERING runs... Take a look at these notes from Larry Sullivan at Dragracecentral.com

"Another four-oh-four run in one lane, the fastest speed ever at 1,000 feet in the other. Amazing stuff, and both elapsed times are career-bests, Tony's 4.049 the second-quickest and Melanie's 4.071 the seventh quickest ever. Speeds - also career-bests for the two drivers, Melanie's the fastest ever and Tony's fourth-fastest."..... then two more cars came up....

"Throw away the record books and start over again - Arend with a career-best run and not even in the field. Neff reset the quickest ever by a ton and he's atop the qulaifying list. Mike Neff's incremental times: 60ft-0.891 sec., 330ft-2.284, 660ft-3.245/265.74mph"....and finally...

"Force lost traction and may have popped the burst panel, the chutes out before he got to the line. Beckman made a great run, at least a great run during most sessions, but only fourth-quickest of the session and fifth-quickest ever.
Whew! That was a great session and it ends with Mike Neff atop the list at 4.041 and Cruz Pedregon on the bump spot at 4.089."

I would have given anything to see this session. Oh, and have to ask KARL... How was this 1000' racing???

A little comparison for everyone...

November 11, 2006 Pomona, California (THE PASS)
60ft-0.841 sec., 330ft-2.114, 660ft-3.003/283.19mph, 1,000ft-3.759 1320ft-4.428/327.98

October 10, 2008 Richmond, Virginia (THE 1000' PASS)
60ft-0.829 sec., 330ft-2.115, 660ft-3.010/280.60 mph, 1,000ft-3.771/317.05

Difference today was a tad slower. (AJ ran it harder to 60' and then "fell off")
60ft-(-0.012), 330ft-(+.001), 660ft-(+.007)/(+2.59mph), 1,000ft-(+0.012)
(- is quicker, + is slower)

Is anyone really surprised at this? AJ has been fiddling around during qualifying for the last few races and waiting for conditions like today.
The real credit needs to go to Jim O - if Hillary had run before Tony, she would have been the first to run a 3.7!. We need Terry Jones to jump in here and explain why this shouldn't have happened - Sorry - just couldn't resist - :D

Wayne even before you bumped your head you were not right!!! Where in the hell are you? Did you see how fast Comp ran this weekend? First round will be a blood bath if there are only a few red lites. Hope all is well with your family.

I do not think the FC session was the quickest ever, in fact, not even close at the top. None of those numbers are in the 4.60's.

Hight has run almost a tenth quicker 3.95 and has been 272 at the 1/8.

I love it, gotta compare this times to the 1/4 just so we know if it's a good pass or not!! Geez, just run them to the real finish line and be done with it!!

I don't think it was the quickest, just one of the more entertaining...Considering that these cars are 150 lbs heavier, and were no where close to the performance numbers early in the year that we saw at the end of 2006, and beginning of 2007....ie.. 4.64-4.66 range. With this new 1000' track, (which is gonna stay so we better get used to it folks) were gonna have to set new performance standards. The 3 second barrier for funny car for example. I just think part of what makes a GREAT session, is when one car comes up and puts up a great number..then the next pair improves it...then the next...then another! I would have love to have been there.
