I've decided to use next years system for the rest of this year just to see how it would turn out. I will update this after every race.

Top Fuel
1-Schumacher 2178pts
2-Bernstein 2142
3-Kalitta 2106
4-Fuller 2095
5-Troxel 2094
6-Grubnic 2083
7-Dixon 2067
8-Lucas 2032

Funny Car
1-Hight 2147
2-Capps 2134
3-Force 2108
4-Bazemore 2095
5-T. Pedregon 2083
6-Medlen 2059
7-Johnson 2056
8-Scelzi 2043

Pro Stock
1-Anderson 2178
2-Connoly 2142
3-Line 2126
4-A Johnson 2083
5-K Johnson 2077
6-Edwards 2054
7-Yates 2040
8-Morgan 2032

another interesting point to kep track off is how the people left outside the chase will fare. Would Hillary or Cory move up in points?

The only driver to jump up into the top 8 this week was V. Gaines. Larry Morgan dropped to 9th.

So by next years standards, V is already out.
Keep track of V to see if he would jump up any higher... after all, this is for the 'lil guys'

that list just makes me want to throw up.
momentum means so much in sports. what a kick in the gut to capps this would be if it were this year they started this B.S.

I'm posting a reply here so I wont miss the results AFTER Reading Pa... I cant wait to see how the new system effects the point standings...I clicked on "instant reply" so I'll see all posts....
Thanks for a great Idea..

I'm obviously interested how V, Hillary and JR fare in "real time" this year and under next year's "system"

Awesome idea. Any chance you can add PSB to your "2006 point countdown" since they will also follow this format in 2007 ?

I can add Pro Stock bike but I'm not sure how it is going to be run. Since they run a smaller schedule, is their chase for the championship shorter or does it start earlier?

The bikes will reset the top eight after their 11th event heading into Indy. They'll run 16 events next year.

So I'm assuming they will run one less race in their championship. Virginia is the only race in the final 6 that doesn't have PSB.

This would be the current PSB standings following race #2 of their chase. (In 2006 their chase would include their final 5 races which added Memhis to their chase.) They have one more race (Reading) before the field is cut to 4.

1-Hines 2252
2-Brown 2239
3-Smith 2196
4-Sampey 2170
5-Ellis 2159
6-Stoffer 2138
7-Schnitz 2116
8-Bradford 2060

Chris - Thanks for including PSB. Yes, there are a few of us PSB fans on this board, lol.

I went through the numbers from 2005 and we would of seen 2 different champions. Here is out it would of went.

5-Bernstein
6-Lucas
7-Herbert
8-S. Kalitta

Final 4
1-Schumacher
2-Herbert
3-Dixon
4-D. Kalitta

Final
Schumacher
Herbert
Dixon
D. Kalitta

Final 8
1-Hight
2-Capps
3-Scelzi
4-Force
5-Medlen
6-TJ Jr.
7-Bazemore
8-C. Pedregon

Final 4
1-Force
2-Scelzi

a couple notables i looked at, under the chase Doug Herbert would of finished 2nd instead of 6th and Bazemore would of finished 4th instead of ending up in 9th like he did.

It looks like Beckman is taking over for Bazemore which wouldn't be happening if it was 2007. It kind of screws up the whole championship race.

another interesting point to kep track off is how the people left outside the chase will fare. Would Hillary or Cory move up in points?

After 17 races in Top Fuel this year, 8th through 12th were separated by 156 pts. Morgan would make the chase, recieving about a 1200 pt bonus.

Now the teams of; Will, Cory, J.R., Baca and Herbert can finish 9th at best.
