Pre-Race Quotes:
“It (the success the team is having) means a lot – all the hard work that’s gone into this team over the last couple of years. When Brian (Crew Chief Brian Husen) came over to our team, it just changed everything. The guys all do such a fantastic job week in and week out. For me, it makes my job a lot easier. I just hit the gas and hold the car straight. When you have confidence in your team and confidence in your car; it’s a lot of fun.
“Brian and the Kalitta Air guys are making this happen. The reality is I did the same things inside the race car three years ago but didn’t finish in the top 10. Now we have one of the best cars the sport’s seen in a long time. I’ve always known Brian’s talent since I worked with him at Alan Johnson Racing. We had great years over there but then went to different teams. I’ve known what he’s capable of, and I’m just happy I get to be in the car to showcase his talents and show how good this team really is.
“To win races, you have everything in place, and to win multiple races, you have to have everything perfect. The car has to be put together perfectly every time, and the crew chief has to make perfect calls. We’re doing that right now. We have a really good group from top to bottom; there’s no weak links. When I sit in the race car, I put the pressure on myself as far as not being the weak link on the team – don’t want to give anything up on the starting line because I know I have a bad ass race car. I just try to do the best I can and not hold anybody back.
“It’s good timing when the car’s running well like this to be going to three in a row. At this point, it’s kind of plug and play. Read the air, read the track and just give the car what it wants. Fortunately, I have the right guys to do that so it’s a good time to be on a hot streak and try to capitalize on that.
“If I do the best job I can and give 100 percent; the stats will be what the stats will be, but I never want to leave anything on the table that would make me look back one day and wish I’d done this or wish I’d done that. Keep working hard and try to do better.
“The races in Epping are epic because those New England fans love NHRA Drag Racing. We’re all in this sport because it’s what we love. Crew guys, drivers, crew chiefs – we love what we do, but when we go somewhere and the fans love what we do almost as much as we do, it makes us really want to put on a great show for them.”
