SealMaster: Shawn Langdon will fly the familiar black and yellow SealMaster colors at this week’s race. SealMaster is a longtime Kalitta Motorsports corporate partner. In addition to the primary placement for the U.S. Nationals, SealMaster is a full-season associate partner on all three Team Kalitta entries. SealMaster is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of pavement sealer and sealcoat with over 150 pavement sealer manufacturing plants and distribution centers in the U.S.

Pre-Race Notes:

  • Shawn Langdon enters the NHRA U.S. Nationals in second place in the NHRA Top Fuel point standings; he trails his teammate, Doug Kalitta, by 67 points and leads third-place Leah Pruett by 191 points with one race remaining in the regular season. Team Kalitta has been one-two in points since the second race of the season.
  • Langdon and Kalitta are the only drivers mathematically eligible to win the NHRA Top Fuel regular season championship and its $150,000 bonus. The U.S. Nationals awards points and a half making each round win worth 30 points instead of 20.
  • Langdon has four wins on the season including three-consecutive wins at Valdosta, Ga., Joliet, Ill., and Budds Creek, Md. With Kalitta’s wins in Charlotte, Sonoma, Calif., Seattle and Brainerd, Minn., the Team Kalitta dragsters won eight of the season’s 13 races and competed in 49 of the 51 rounds of racing.
  • Langdon has four wins, three runners-up and two semifinal showings along with five No. 1 qualifiers this season. In the last four races, he qualified first, second, fourth and third.
  • Langdon owns the two fastest runs in NHRA history. At the Southern Nationals in Georgia in May, he recorded speeds of 345.00 mph and 344.91 mph.
  • Langdon has two wins in three U.S. Nationals final rounds. In addition, he has two No. 1 qualifiers and a U.S. Nationals win in Super Gas.
  • Langdon is the 2013 NHRA Top Fuel Champion and has 26 wins in his career.

“I feel good going into Indy this weekend – we’re second to Doug in points right now, but we’ll see if we can’t end the regular season in first. We’re looking forward to seeing how it all plays out. Where we are in points doesn’t really change the mindset; we just keep working. We keep doing what we’re doing. We try not to think about it – just keep doing what we’re doing. It’s been a great season; we won bunch of races, and we’ve won some Mission Foods Challenges, so it’s been a great year.

“I haven’t really thought about it (regular season championship). I just kind of go to the next race and treat it like the last one and just try not to think about all the other stuff. When you start thinking about everything, it gets in your mind and then you start overthinking and over analyzing everything, so I don’t really think about it. I just show up to the next race and go do our thing. I’m not sure if the guys think that way, too. Maybe some do, maybe not, but we can only take it one race at a time. Winning takes care of everything so that’s what we’ll try to do.

“This race pays double money and points and a half so it’s a pretty important part of the 20 races we have on the schedule. It’s nice to sleep in your own bed at night, but really, it feels like all the other races. It’s nice to win an event, and it’s hard to win an event. Anytime you can win this race, it’s a good feeling for all the hard work that goes into it.”
