Pre-Race Notes:

  • Doug Kalitta enters the NHRA New England Nationals in second place in the NHRA Top Fuel point standings; he trails his teammate, Shawn Langdon, by 76 points and leads third-place Leah Pruett by 140 points. Team Kalitta has been one-two in points since the second race of the season.
  • With Kalitta’s Charlotte win, and Langdon’s four wins, the Team Kalitta dragsters have won five of the season’s seven races and have competed in 27 of the 28 rounds of racing. The two-time and defending NHRA Top Fuel champion has a win, three runners-up, two semifinals and two No. 1 qualifiers.
  • Kalitta will seek his second-straight “No. 1 Clawifier Award” presented by Napa Friday night. During the Friday night qualifying session, the driver with the quickest elapsed time will sit in a chair made of lobster traps and hold a giant lobster until another driver goes quicker and claims the chair. The team that wins the award Friday night will receive a shipment of lobsters sometime after the race – and the giant lobster.
  • New England Dragway is a Team Kalitta favorite because of Eddie’s Lobsterfest – a New Hampshire staple for the team. After Scott Kalitta passed away in a 2008 racing accident in Englishtown, N.J., the team debuted this event in 2009 in his memory naming it after one of Scott’s nicknames with the help of longtime friends Donna and Joe Poulin at Windham Rental Center. When NHRA stopped racing at Englishtown, Eddie’s Lobsterfest moved to New England Dragway.
  • Kalitta’s 60 race wins place him fourth all-time in Top Fuel wins and 12th overall. His 68 career No. 1 qualifiers place him tied with Kenny Bernstein for seventh all-time. He is seventh all-time in round wins.
  • Kalitta has a win (2024), a runner up and three No. 1 qualifiers at New England Dragway; his most recent No. 1 qualifier was last season.
  • Kalitta is a two-time NHRA Top Fuel Champion (2023, ’25) and a member of the Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame.

Pre-Race Quotes:

“Going to these races each weekend, it’s definitely nice knowing you have a good-running car and a shot at the win. It’s all a guy could hope for; it’s real exciting that our Mac Tools car is running like it is, and everybody’s doing their job really well.

“We’re hoping to get to the final this weekend to have a shot at another New England win. The Mac Tools car has been really good this season; we have a win, but it would be good to turn more of these final rounds to into race wins. Were all working our tails off trying to keep up with those (Kalitta Air) guys. That’s how it is out here; just gotta keep your head down and go as hard as you can.

“Eddie’s Lobsterfest is a nice tradition. It’s good food, it’s good company and it’s something we all definitely look forward to each year. We get together and drink a Coors Light because that’s what Scott used to always drink. I’m not a big cigar person, but that’s the other thing. Scott used to smoke these Swisher Sweet cigars so that’s also part of it. People get up and say something about Scott – whatever comes to mind. Everybody just enjoys the evening.
