Doug Kalitta, Mobil 1 Top Fuel Dragster​


Finals Broadcast Replay (eastern time): 10 p.m. – 1 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21 on FS1

Qualifying: Doug Kalitta was the No. 3 qualifier at the Texas NHRA FallNationals. His best qualifying attempt came in the second session Friday night when the Mobil 1 dragster reached the finish line in 3.668 seconds at 338.8 mph. The reigning and two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion made four qualifying attempts between 3.668 seconds and 3.693 seconds and exceeded 340 mph twice.

Eliminations: Kalitta defeated Tony Schumacher in the first round but lost to Maddi Gordon in the second round. Kalitta was off the starting line first and leading the race when the Mobil 1 dragster smoked the tires allowing Gordon to coast to the win. Today’s final round was just the third round of the season, and the first since the Norwalk, Ohio final round on June 28, that did not include a Kalitta Motorsports Top Fuel dragster.

Unofficial Point Standings: Kalitta remains second in the NHRA Top Fuel point standings. He trails his teammate, Shawn Langdon, by 139 points with two races remaining in the season.

Kalitta on Texas: “The Mobil 1 car was consistent this weekend, but with the second round there, the thing just got away from us for some reason. It seemed like it was good until it wasn’t. We had a good shot at winning that round, but unfortunately, we didn’t. It could have been a good points day for catching up, but it didn’t happen – thanks to Mobil 1 for being with us this week, and thanks to Mac Tools, Gerber and SealMaster. Shawn (Langdon) and Brian (Langdon Crew Chief Brian Husen) lost in the semis, but they’re out there pretty far ahead of us. We’re going to have to be pretty lucky to be able to catch them, but there’s still hope. We’re going to stick around and do a little testing tomorrow and then drag her over to Vegas for the next one. That place has always been good to us, so we’ll see what happens.”
