Doug Kalitta, Mac Tools Top Fuel Dragster

Finals Broadcast Replay (eastern time):
6-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 20 on FS2

Qualifying: Doug Kalitta was the No. 1 qualifier at the Gerber Collision & Glass Route 66 NHRA Nationals. Kalitta made strong runs in three of the four qualifying sessions, but his best effort came in the second session late Friday afternoon when he reached the finish line in 3.720 seconds at 338.17 mph to claim his second-straight No. 1 qualifier, his second-straight at Route 66 Raceway, his second of the season and the 68th of his career.

Eliminations: Kalitta had a first-round bye with only 15 Top Fuel cars in the race, and he faced his teammate, Shawn Langdon, in the second round. Kalitta was off the starting line first and leading the race when the Mac Tools dragster lost traction; Kalitta pedaled, but Langdon was too far down the track and won by .6056 seconds.

Unofficial Point Standings:
Kalitta leaves Chicago in second place in the NHRA Top Fuel point standings. He trails first-place Langdon by 54 points and leads third-place Leah Pruett by 111 points.

Kalitta on Chicago: “We qualified first – that was a good start for us. We made a good run in the first round, but in the second round, for whatever reason, the thing just went out there and smoked ‘em. We got it gathered up and trucking down through there, but Shawn was too far ahead so I just got out of it. We’re all hungry, and obviously that wasn’t what we were hoping for today, but overall, I’m real proud of the effort from my guys – it was just one of those deals.”
