Doug Kalitta, Applied Innovation Top Fuel Dragster

Qualifying: Doug Kalitta was the No. 1 qualifier at the NHRA Nationals at The Rock. His best qualifying attempt during Friday’s second session when he needed only 3.682 seconds to reach the finish line at 338.09 mph. Kalitta was the only driver to qualify in the 3.60s. It was his second-straight No. 1 qualifier, his fourth in the last six races, his sixth of the season and the 72nd of his career.
Eliminations: Kalitta defeated Rit Pustari, Maddi Gordon and Will Smith before losing to his teammate, Shawn Langdon, in the final round. It was the fourth all Team Kalitta final round of the season.
Unofficial Point Standings: Kalitta leaves Rockingham in second place in the NHRA Top Fuel point standings. He trails Langdon by 25 points and leads third-place Tony Stewart by 130 points.

“Obviously, we would’ve loved to get the win for this Mac Tools team today, but all in all, it was a strong weekend for us. The fans were really good all weekend – they really packed em in here. Hats off to Shawn and his team; they ran a great race in the final. They got this one, but Alan, Mac (Crew Chiefs Alan Johnson and Mac Savage) and all my guys know it’s gonna be a battle until the end of the season, and we’re hungry to get it done at the end of the year.”
