Wilkerson sits in the No. 12 spot

ENGLISHTOWN, Friday: As the first day of qualifying at the ProCare Rx NHRA SuperNationals comes to a close, Funny Car pro, Tim Wilkerson sits in the No. 12 position. Wilkerson put his Levi, Ray & Shoup Chevrolet Impala SS into the show in the first session and stayed there through to the end of the day.

On his first qualifying attempt, Wilkerson had some difficulties as he lost a blower belt and posted a 5.054 at 249.95 mph. The difficulties didn't end there for Wilkerson. His on-board computer didn't work, so Wilkerson didn't get any data from the run to help him make his tuning decisions for the evening pass. But Wilkerson's talent and experience prevailed, as he improved on his next run, posting a 4.819 at 323.89 mph.

"It was running along pretty good on our first pass, when it put a hole out and the belt fell off," explained Wilkerson. "But I had no computer data after that run so for the second run I tuned it from the seat of my pants. It was slow in the middle and I don't know why. I was trying to run a 78 or 79, and it would have if it would have run in the middle. It looks like it didn't wear much clutch, so that may be why it didn't run in the middle. It looks like we could have gotten after it a little more because the track was pretty good. But it was smooth and fast early and that's what we were wanting to do.

"I don't know how the track will be tomorrow, but hopefully we'll run the sessions on time, so we'll run in the middle of the day when the sun is out. That should keep us safe in the show and help us figure out how to race for Sunday."
