Here's a start... typical Wall Street business model these days

"But Charter has never made a profit since at least 1999, when it went public. Its earnings were wiped out by large interest payments on the debts it incurred largely in the acquisitions it used to expand.

It's had other missteps. In 2004 and 2005, four former executives pleaded guilty to scheming to inflate revenue, cash flow and subscriber rolls. The company settled ensuing shareholder lawsuits for $144 million in cash and stock."

Just once before I die, I want to say "Son of a b***h, I lost Seven BILLION dollars."

Just once,

One year when I went to Auckland, New Zealand for one of our V8 Supercar races Charter's boss and Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen had his yacht moored next to the Hilton Hotel by the water ...Tatoosh, not a bad little dingy!

Staring at the pristine hull on which a surgeon could operate, a friend quipped "knowing that one person actually owns this makes you realise what a failure in life you really are." ...

I guess only people that can afford to lose $7b and still have $16b leff can afford a boat like this... :(:p

Is that a P/S car I see sitting on the top back? UH OH,sorry,I put my glasses on,that's a helicopter. Oh well,I guess my eyes are not what they use to be.

...and I thought the 60' Sea Ray cruisers here at the Lake of the Ozarks were impressive. Those Sea Ray 60 footers sell for 1.5 million dollars here. I wonder what Allen's boat ran him....it looks like you could put several 60' Cruisers on top of it and still have room to move around!

For a mere $200 million, you too can own a boat like Paul Allen! But wait, order in the next 60 minutes and we'll include a free, $2 million dollar helicopter :)

From the opening page:
In 2003, the launch of Paul Allen's 127m (416ft) "Octopus" secured its number one position as the world's
largest yacht. Microsoft's "accidental billionaire" Paul Allen - worth US$20 billion according to Forbes, the third richest man in
America and 7th in the world - owns two other monsters yachts such as Tatoosh ranked 3rd in the World in 2003.

Octopus cost Allen over US$200 million and has Permanent crew of 60, including several former Navy Seals.
It has two helicopters, seven boats, a 10 man submarine and a remote controlled vehicle for crawling on the
Ocean floor. The submarine has the capacity to sleep eight for up to two weeks underwater. On average, owners must spend a minimum of 10 percent of the purchase price every year to keep these
yachts in good working condition and cover crew salaries. Therefore “Octopus” which cost Allen US$200 million
requires a US$20 million annual budget.

It's only money!!

Several friends of mine worked on outfitting the Octopus, and his various homes around the country. They are all covered by strict non-disclosure agreements. Suffice it to say that you'd find it difficult to even dream up some of the amenities, let alone afford them. The level of sophistication of the electronics systems, both on land and afloat, is nothing short of stunning.

When we were in St Maartin in November the catamaran captain was telling us about all the yachts that winter there including Paul Allen's. He said that the yacht owned by the even richer Russian oil guy (don't remember his name) has 3 helecopters - one for him and his guests, one for the captain and cheif engineer, and one to get the food supplies that are flown in daily from Russia!

I bet I could go on there right now, ask for biscuits and gravy and, they wouldn't be able to do it. What's it worth? :D

Even if they DID, the biscuits probably wouldn't be buttermilk. 200 Schmillion. I'd have to use the helicopter to get off of it and go get some real food! :D
