Whiteley looking to stay hot in Chicago (1 Viewer)

[coverattach=1]JOLIET, Ill. – Defending NHRA Division 7 Top Alcohol Dragster driver Jim Whiteley and his YNot Racing team will be looking to stay hot at this weekend’s United Association Route 66 Nationals at Route 66 Raceway just outside of Chicago. Whiteley enters the event on the heels of a win at last weekend’s national event in Topeka, Kan.

Whiteley, from Grand Junction, Colo., hopes to start a run similar to the one he started last June, where he won four out of five races over the course of the summer.

“We got on a hot streak last year where everything went our way,” said Whiteley. “We got the breaks when we needed them and Norm and the guys had the car running great. We’d love to have another run like that this year, but to win the championship, we can’t have the early round exits we had last year.”

This weekend’s event will be no cakewalk, as it also plays host to the Jeg’s Sportsman All-Star event, which is a race within a race ran on Saturday. The event will draw some of the best racers from around the country, in addition to the always-tough local hitters like Marty Thacker and Bill Reichert.

“It’s going to be a tough go, no doubt about it,” stated Whiteley. “We enjoy the challenge; that’s why we do this. If it was easy, it wouldn’t be as fun. Chicago is traditionally one of the fastest tracks in the country. It should be fun to see what Norm and the guys can do with the car this weekend.”

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars with two sessions, followed by one final session on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
