Whiteley looking to break first round jinx in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. - After qualifying No. 2 at their past two events, Jim Whiteley and the YNot Racing NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster team will be looking to break their first round jinx during this weekend's Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Southwestern International Raceway in Tucson, Ariz. Whiteley's blown alcohol dragster has encountered heavy tireshake in the first round at both races attended this year.

Whiteley, from Grand Junction, Colo., has faith his Norm Grimes lead team will eradicate the problem this weekend.

"In the first round last weekend, it started shaking pretty early," said Whiteley. "[Brandon] Johnson jumped out there on me pretty bad after that. It's hard to catch them when you get into trouble that early."

"Norm has the car making a bunch of power," continued Whiteley. "We just haven't been able to get it to the track in round one. We're just working through it, I have a lot of faith in these guys. This weekend will be a whole new ball game. We're not on a national event track and there's a lot more altitude at this track. We just have to put the last couple of races behind us and start over this weekend."

The alcohol cars will have three qualifying sessions on Friday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Saturday.
