Whiteley hoping to keep the streak going in Sonoma (1 Viewer)

[coverattach=1]SONOMA, Calif. – After going undefeated in four races during the month of June, defending NHRA Division 7 Champion Jim Whiteley and his YNot Racing team will be looking to keep the streak alive during this weekend’s Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. Whiteley enters the event ranked second nationally and first in Division 7 standings.

Whiteley, from Grand Junction, Colo., started off the month of June with national event wins in Topeka, Kan., and Chicago, then followed that with divisional wins in Chicago and Denver. He and the team have enjoyed the break, but are ready to get back into the mix this weekend.

“It was nice to have some time off, but we’re all ready to get back to racing,” said Whiteley. “We had a great month of June which really helped our points situation. That doesn’t guarantee us anything going forward, so we have to stay focused this weekend and try to close the deal on another race. There are a lot of tough cars in Division 7, so it will be no easy task.”

At NHRA divisional events, racing becomes a family affair for the YNot Racing team, as Whiteley’s wife Annie, son Steven and his sister in law Anita Olsen all compete as well. Annie and Anita, twins, compete in identical Top Dragsters while Steven competes in Top Sportsman with a ’63 Corvette.

“What can we say, the whole family enjoys drag racing,” said Whiteley. “We really enjoy the divisional events when we can get everyone out here. We take our racing very serious, but we like to have a good time doing it. Chasing the national points can be nerve racking at times, so it’s nice to be able to relax a little more on the divisional level.”

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars followed by two sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
