It looked like 300mph in actual speed!
If I heard that announcer right, the winner went 108 MPH. I'm guessing that is real MPH, so wonder what that converts to in scale MPH. Talk about a blur..... wow!
Reminds me of long ago slot racing, at the time they did a scale 1/4 mile (55ft) in under a second. 6 volt armatures running on 36 volt power. Silicone tires on Formica track, wadded up nylon parachute that they"flew into. There was a hollow core door at end of track that had a few holes in it . . .
When I'm not on the road I race on Wed and Sat nights at Buena Park raceway in Buena Park Ca. My buddy Robert Shear who does the clutch on Bob Bodes team also races with me. I just had a car built for Jim Campbell a few weeks ago. Eric Medlen use to come and race with us, and Jimmy Prock and Jack Beckman has brought their kids buy to run some of our cars. Most tracks run on 16 volts now and use glue in the shutdown area instead of parachutes.I remember seeing slot cars just like this, at some event I went to when I was still in L.A. Remember being impressed with the little cars. do they still do racing like that?
The Phoenix track closed down last year but I heard someone is working on opening another one in Phoenix. Thanks for the info Eugene. Maybe I can find a place in Phoenix area that has slot racing.
