When the 17yr Old Set The Record

At a decent size Junior Fuel show at the greatest weekly drag strip ever, Lions Drag Strip, 17 year old Les Allen had himself a heckuva night. He won the 8-car show with 17 entries on hand. Les drove the "Stinger" to a world record of 8.34 at a booming 188.00mph! At 17 folks, at the toughest venue ever for the class.

The Junior Fuel category, especially at Lions was top-flight and brutal.

And Les' little brother Jeb Allen went on to become a T/F world champ. Les drove front engine T/F also. I saw him at Lions once do a big wheelie in the front motor car and he just rode it out. Also saw Jeb get his license for T/F and later make his first runs in the back motor car.

really liked bobby's complus legends deal on jeb allen. just watched it again recently.

I never knew Jeb became an alcoholic. He finally got his life back together, but he paid the price for it. My dad went down that road, & it cost us a lot of grief. I very seldom drink anything just cuz of that. God bless Jeb Allen.

In my view Les Allen was the Junior Fuel Dragster car and driver to beat in 1966.
