the real question is what does it cost to produce and ship a gallon of each.
.02 guess is there's far more profit in patron...not tequila, just patron;
it is marketed and sold very successfully as a luxury brand.
The math is fine, the problem is what you are paying for a 750ml of Patron Silver! I can get that same bottle for about $50. Are you sure you weren't looking at the 1.75L?

The one good thing is, atleast with Tequila, unlike nitromethane; or shall we say radio controlled model aircraft fuel, if there's a shortage of Patron... you can atleast compromise and step down a grade or two and still get your drink on and feel good when it's all said and done.... whereas if there's a shortage of the stinky yellow-cloud.... everybody gets all bent out of shape, race cars get parked, we don't get throttle whacks.... just a bad situation all around
