western races

Cameron is driving for Ron August. We just ran 3 races in 5 weeks. We're not equipped for that. We would love to go to Milan. We're just out of parts, money, and time. We will be back in September.
Shoot me a PM if you ever need a hand around the shop. I'm out in Madison but it's been 20ish years since I've been around a fuel car.

You have fun at that 1/8th mile nitro race.... I will be in Vegas the week prior watching nearly 40 nitro cars battle for spots in those fields and watching teams race for a championship. Not to mention, it will be fully catered with booze and with club nitro passes. Oh yeah, I will be coming from a state far away from Nevada since that matters for some reason.

If Krista makes a NHRA final I will bet you her reaction will be 100x what it was in Columbus, but carry on....
Vegas for me too.

........ It’s actually better to qualify #2 than #1. First round you’re more than likely to get Cam Ferre who most likely will be the 11th qualifier. If you can get by a tough second round matchup you get a bye into the final.
which langdon played perfectly.
the run of the year so far was DK's E1 ...... 3.628 / 341.34 / over 300 @ 1/8. that was a jaw dropper

the next 2 races now have 10 TF entries. what is the solution? a bracket full of byes?
or qualify 8 cars and compensate 9 and 10 with E1 loser money and qualifying points?
i'd rather see an 8 car field.

Years ago the first brainerd race had an eight car top Fuel field

Boy, this is looking kind of bleak for the rest of the season, and for the next few years, in the NHRA fuel classes.

If Steve Torrance steps out of the seat, does his Dad get back to racing full-time if he retires from Capco day-to-day operations? I would think that is a possibility.

And what happens when Connie Kalitta is gone? Does he leave a trust fund set up to keep the 3 teams out there for years to come? Does Doug take over operation of the teams? Who knows at this point.

Is Maddie Gordon really going to drive in TF next year? If Capps had a sponsor lined up, he would have made an announcement already. I suspect he is in discussions, but no commitment yet. So that whole deal, I would think, is still a big "maybe".

What has happened to Blake Alexander since his incident a few races ago? Will we see him back this year? Or ever?

I agree that it seems unlikely that Scrappers shows up again later this year, as though it has been underreported overall, it seems like all his crew have moved on to other teams. I guess he could put together some part-time guys for a few races.
And find a crew chief. Highly doubt be will be back

You can thank the Countdown BS for a lot of this. All you got to do is show up enough to make the top 10 by Indy which doesn't appear to be too hard to do.
With full pull sponsorship harder and harder to come by, you could be on to something although even without the countdown if the money to race for old points system isn’t there it would probably still have same short fields, hopefully sponsorships come back to drag racing

just as a comparison for car count for all classes as shown by nhra entry status
seattle: 276
sonoma: 241
bir: 401 and counting (4 day event + double divisional/regional tied to weekend prior)

Comp, Super Street and Top Dragster are not at Sonoma this year. BIR has almost every class.

every year nhra releases a schedule of classes competing at each nat. event.
seattle ran 14 classes. sonoma is running 9. bir is running 14. (15 if u include TFH, which at this time has zero entries)
if you look at the super classes, plus stk and ss ......
seattle capped quotas at 45 and did not fill any of those classes
sonoma capps quotas at 60 and did not fill any of those classes
brainerd capps quotas at 55 and has filled all those classes

There's a bit more to it.

Division 6 has one National Event: Seattle. So every class is contested, because every racer should have a chance to run a National in their home division.
Seattle also doesn't have nearly the pit space as say, Las Vegas so they have to limit the quotas a bit more.

Since Bandimere closed, Brainerd is the only Division 5 event, so it's in the same boat as Seattle.

Super Street for examle is usually run one time per Division, so in the other Divisions it will move from track to track.

Anytime you can get a divisional the week before or after a national, it really helps the sportsman classes. They can kill two birds with one stone. Unfortunately it doesn’t solve the nitro issue.

some can and do for sure. three races in two weekends. the divisional will draw a lot more than the 55 entered for the nat. event.,
a lot will show at div. who either don't have enough grade points to enter nat., or they didn't have enough grade points
when the nat. opened up, and it filled within a few weeks.

It sucks for those that don’t have the grade points but NHRA has to limit the fields. Most tracks don’t have the space for 500 sportsman racers nor the time to run them. I see there are more Alky Fc’s entered for Brainerd than what they have been getting the last few years.

for sure. qualified 8 car fields in TAD and TAFC is perfect. believe it or not, i remember back in early 90's the alcohol cars would have Q1 on thursday, along with sportsman qualifying. stock used to have 100+ entries, and always class on fridays. comp sometimes would have 20+. those were the days.
2 weeks after sonoma until bir double d starts. thinking the alcohol and comp entry lists will still grow.
