Weaver looking to crack top 10 in Pomona

POMONA, Calif. - NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car veteran John Weaver and the Meer Capital Partners Top Alcohol Funny Car team will be looking to crack into the top ten nationally with a strong showing at this weekend's season-ending Automobile Club of Southern California Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona. Weaver is a mere 22 points out of the top ten with a full event left to claim on his points this weekend.

Team Crew Chief Bob DeVour hopes for a strong showing this weekend, but already has an eye on next season.

"We started trying a few things last weekend in Vegas," said DeVour. "Basically this weekend we just want to go let the clutch out and see what the car runs. I want to make the car run the best I can make it run. It's running well now, but you would always like to make it faster. We're looking for more, so that's why we're trying a few new things. Ideally it will work out and we'll go some rounds."

Team Owner Ron Meer is excited about the possibility of making the top ten, but hopes to make strides to improving on that next season.

"If we can make the top ten, that will certainly be an honor for this team," stated Meer. "We always have our eye on the future, and our goal is to build a championship caliber organization. We're definitely moving in the right direction, but we're not going to sit back and be content. We're always striving to move forward and be the best."

Qualifying begins on Thursday for the alcohol cars and will conclude on Friday. Eliminations begin on Saturday with round one and will conclude on Sunday.
