Weaver and Meer looking for first national win together

KENT, Wash. - Former two-time NHRA Division 7 Top Alcohol Funny Car Champion John Weaver has stood on the podium at the end of the day once in his career, carding a victory at the 1994 Winternationals in Pomona. Despite scoring several wins on the divisional level with new team owner Ron Meer and the Meer Capital Partners team, the duo have yet to hit 'pay dirt' on the national level, but hope to change that during this weekend's Schucks Auto Parts Nationals at Pacific Raceways just outside of Seattle.

Weaver, from just down the road in Orting, Wash., and Meer, from Anaheim, Calif., enter the event hot off a win in Woodburn, Ore., two weeks ago, and hope to carry the momentum into this weekend's event.

"We haven't done too well at the last few nationals we've raced at," said Weaver. "We've just had little problems jump up and bite us. We've done well on the divisional level, so hopefully we can carry that over this weekend. We're definitely looking forward to racing on a good track like Seattle, especially since it has all the trees around it. Those trees put extra oxygen in the air and make it a fast track. This is also my home track so I hope to do well."

Team Owner Meer feels the pieces are in place for his team to score a victory.

"This team really has come together this year," stated Meer. "As the owner, I'm proud to be associated with these guys. Bob [DeVour - Crew Chief] has the car running well, so hopefully we can put the pieces together. There will be some tough competition this weekend, but we enjoy the challenge. When you can do well against a field like we'll see this weekend, it just makes it that much sweeter."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars with two sessions. Qualifying concludes Saturday morning followed by round one of eliminations in the afternoon. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
