How times have changed.....today, after you pull off your headgear following your final victory at track end, you get handed a Wally, 50 years ago you got a cigarette first.

Notice the 4 lanes at the Rockingham facility. Yep, 4-wide racing happened there long ago at non-NHRA events. Some of you older racers may have competed there in the 70s. I've raced 4-wide at Green Valley Raceway back in the day when so many stockers showed up they had to run 'em 4 wide in the first couple of rounds just to keep the race from going until dark thirty in the morning. It wasn't complicated like it is now; 1 tree for everybody and only the first to the stripe advances. 128 cars start out; by round 3 there's 8 left and it's back to 2 lane semis and finals.
