I was at Richard Ruth's shop when he was building that 55. Actually he built three of them for that movie. It was later driven by Harrison Ford in American Graffiti.

Don't want to date myself, however, I went to the theatre to see that one when it came out. Not much acting, but that's not why I went to see it. Classic story line.....Dudes goin' cross country, street racing to make ends meet.

On one of the takes when James Taylor races that '32 ford, the car('32) had an Engine fire that caused severe damage to the car. I just found out that Drive-Inn is still in business.

The footage that is shot inside the car, especially nearing the end of the movie, once the girl had jumped ship and they were looking for her and GTO, is my favorite part. Nothing sounds cooler than that rock crusher transmission and its straight cut gears.

To me, it's the coolest movie car of all time...and it was kicking Milner's ass at the end of American Graffitti before Bob Falfa drove it off of the road...he he.
