Wonder if Torrence did that himself,Shortall is a big guy lol.

That must have been a major difference of opinion to terminate that many at the same time.

Crew chiefs are like NBA coaches. They manage a big budget operation and when the team owner decides it's time to make a change he just gets someone else that was fired from another team at one time and so it goes.

Good Luck to Richard Hogan. Super nice guy and a class act. Going to be real interesting to see how Torrence does now.

Hogan is a great "start up" guy, but to take it to the next level, especially with rumors of a second car, they need to get more aggressive and consistant.
I don't know what is causing their problems this year, but I think Richard can be just as aggressive and consistant as any other crew chief out here. To run as good as he did last year with only half the data as the other teams was amazing, and I think a second car would have helped him even more. Maybe now a smaller T/F or F/C team can take advantage of this unfortunate situation and grab him and step their program up a notch.

Wonder how Hogan likes Amalie oil?

I'm sure you'll see him somewhere real soon. Hopefully with Speedy right along side. :D

The level of competition in TF has risen significantly in the last year. The fields are as tight or tighter than they have ever been. When 20+ cars enter and only 16 can qualify, someone is going to be on the outside at every race. If either DSR, Kalitta, AJR or any other team had 20 cars all to themselves, guess what, 4 cars are not going to qualify. This makes it extremely hard for a multi-car or a single car team to qualify at every race. Yes, the big teams have a slight advantage when it comes to this. But on the flip side, a single car team has only one focus. That focus is on one car and one car only. Sometimes that helps, other times it hurts.

If a crew chief has talent, he will land on his feet. It's just a matter of the fit with any particular team. It's hard to have a perfect dynamic on every team, but that is what is strived for. Those who have it win championships. When they lose some or all of that dynamic, they begin to struggle. A crew chief coming to a new team may excell for a bit because everyone is gung-ho to win. But after a year maybe some guys leave or others begin to get disgruntled over something and it begins to show in the performance. Its how you manage it that matters. It's been that way forever and it probably isn't going to change anytime soon.

beard's gonna' have to get a bigger closet pretty soon.
chance to run a possible 2-car team again (d. powers).
think he's got those big valve heads figured out?.....IMO DSR & AJR are
still the class of the field

I would love to see Beard heading up a 2 car campaign for Torrence.

Put Tommy Johnson Jr. in that second car Steve!!!
