great comments by tony!!!! well lets see, tony seems to not like the 1,000 ft thing. but im sure some of the "experts " on here will disagree with a funny car driver, team owner, 2 time world champ great job tony ped!
link anyone? thanks
now there's an idea. For over 10 years I have hated the way these plastic bubble cars look. Everytime i mentioned it on here I would get replies telling me that the aerodynamic bodies make the cars faster. Faster? Maybe but I'm not all that thrilled about watching 2 bubbles racing down the track.I really liked Tony's statement about the 5"s of wing... "IF" NHRA had kept the cars looking somewhat like the car they are supposed to be.. .

I think the first thing NHRA should do if they want to slow the cars down is use a body template that more accurately reflects the street models.
Oh yeah and go back to 1320' racing.
Thats what they should look like.... I think it would bring back the personality of the class a little...

I thought he was just talking about taking some of the wing away and treatment of the track. I didn't realize he was referring to the bodies style or shape..
That looks very cool, but there's no way you could run a car like that with a current generation nitro engine. You could get it down the track with some of the highest output Top Sportsman engines, but even some of them would make the thing a beast to hook up and handle.

Remove down force from Funny Car bodies. That's the ticket! It'd slow them down because they'd all be up in smoke or banging into the walls or each other. Zero elapsed time in both lanes would be very (ultimately) slow. Not necessarily safer, but slow.Where is NHRA Graham Cracker lite's car of tomorrow since he likes Smash car so much.
I will gladly take a Retro looking car over this what kinda car is he driving. frankly unless the driver tells you it's a Chevy AKA Wilkerson, who care the are all Mopars under the hood.
Now for the REAL reason to Remove the Read Wing on Funnys..............
Since no one has said a word about this. I will bring light to a Fact that has been WAY over looked for a LONG time.
Big rear wings are the MAJOR cause of the bodys being ruined when the blower pops and the rear wing down force rips the body apart at the base of the windshield. Now that I bring this to lite. look back and Capps blow up.. the rear was gone the front stayed.. same for Several others.
Ask how many bodys would not have been rendered Usless by the pulling apart from the front being push down and the rear wanting to life the front of it and render it souviers. Put that on the list of $$$ saving ideas..
PS the only body I can recall getting rendered usless by other means was a sawzall by some other team when it was left behind... OOOPS
As for top fuel.
Removing the for lack of Better tern. The outside portion of the rear wing. AKA above the rear tires would be a 1000% safety inhancement. If the rear wing was narrower. when the rear tire on Russel's car shreded and Ripped the wing strut forward into and place it should not have gone. He would still be with us today.
Ask dixon or any one else who lost a rear wing in a TF car how they like it. I bet the comment would be.. well it sure would keep the center of the frame from Bowing up as much and Breaking apart at times.
I did find it nice to hear Coil say some thing about 4 wheel brakes today. maybe he read my post in another thread and took it as a real issue.
Theres my 5 cents worth.

Mandate every fuel dragster be a mono wing chassis? That's another ticket! Obsolete every car currently in possession, in competition or on order, and get it done by 2009. Might as well toss the class entirely than try to do that.
I'm amazed at some of the suggestions being made. I understand everyone's desire to express opinions, and harbor no ill will toward that, but some of it just doesn't make real world sense.
You just can't affectively obsolete almost everything that is nitro racing today. The fields are already tight or short. The expense of some of the changes being offered by those who aren't racing in these classes can surely be put on a fantasy wish list. They just aren't going to happen.
