Todd Runs Well, Fuller Runs a Little Better at Gatornationals

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- J.R. Todd and the SKULL Shine/Torco Racing Fuels Top Fuel dragster team registered their quickest elapsed time of the ACDelco Gatornationals in Sunday's opening round at Gainesville Raceway, but it wasn't enough.

It took Todd 4.569 seconds (at 321.58 mph) to traverse the quarter-mile but Rod Fuller lit the win light first with a 4.515 at 328.70 mph.

"We were just one run shy of making things happen," said Todd of the team's outstanding effort in its first POWERade Series event with new tuning personnel. "We lost one qualifying run on Friday but we rebounded well. This was definitely a boost for the team. I think people thought we'd stumble, but this team has what it takes. We are still working hard."

Todd wound up 15th in the 16-car field with a 4.642 time, thereby drawing Fuller, the No. 2 qualifier.

Todd, fourth in NHRA POWERade points with 178, returns to series competition at Houston, March 30-April 1. He and the team will be attending the NASCAR race at Bristol, Tenn., Saturday and Sunday.
