Todd Qualifies Seventh for CSK Nationals
NHRA Series Point Leader J.R. Todd Runs 4.510 at 323.43 mph

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Top Fuel pacesetter J.R. Todd begins Sunday's Checkers Schuck's Kragen Nationals -- the second NHRA POWERade Series event of the 2007 season -- from the No. 7 qualifying position.

Todd drove the Tuttle Motorsports SKULL Shine/Torco Racing Fuels dragster to a best of 4.510 seconds at 323.41 mph in two different days of qualifying. Friday was cool and quite windy, while the temperatures went up and the sun shined all Saturday, creating different competitive conditions. Todd races Bob Vandergriff Jr. (No. 10, 4.523 at 329.58) in the opening round.

"The track conditions are very different when the sun shines on it," said Todd, who didn't qualify here in his first visit last year. "It was very slick starting at halftrack and the tires started spinning. The car did go down the track, and that's always good.

"We aren't far off on the tune-up and I'm certain (crew chief) Jimmy (Walsh) will have the car in good shape for eliminations."

Todd won the Winternationals at Pomona, Calif. Feb. 11).
