if your talking the only time they did in 2000 that was because of rain. It was a 3 race swing. Indy, e-town, reading

An amazing story from this race. Jim Bailey was driving Doug Herberts 2nd fueler, but on the IHRA side. He ended up going to E-town in May and qualified. When they postponed until September it caused a conflict for Bailey with the Epping IHRA race.
Fast-forward to September, IHRA only gave fuel cars one qualifier on late Friday afternoon. Bailey get's down the track and qualifies. The crew services the car and the whole rig and team pull out and head to E-town for an overnight trip to race on Saturday for eliminations. E-town isn't right around the corner, its a good 4-4.5 hour drive from Epping. Anyway, they get to E-town and setup shop. Bailey lost either 1st or 2nd rnd. Then the same process of servicing, packing up and pulling out occured again and they headed back to Epping to run eliminations for Sunday.
That was one tired crew...I think they hung out and left the track on Monday this time.

First of all the 40's are the nightime temperatures. Check the new schedule posted at NHRA.com and you will see there is NO night racing at this event. Done by 7pm today and 5pm tomorrow. According to Accuweather, day time temperatures should be OK for racing, especially today. Its the "R" word that will screw things up as it is supposed to rain again tonight plus showers tomorrow and Sunday.

...and you definately do not want to be on the Maple Grove surface once the sun goes down. The top end and shutdown area turns into a sheet of ice from the dew.

1. This post was made before they modified the changes

2. It's Tim Wilkerson's question.

3. I never said anything about day or night cause it's kinda obvious it's not gonna be low 40's during the day in early october.

4. Stop being a wise ass

I actually remember that fully, and i say e-town to epping is more like 5-6 hours.

1. This post was made before they modified the changes ... My statements were general, not directed at you. Sensitive?

2. It's Tim Wilkerson's question ... Well aware of that.

3. I never said anything about day or night cause it's kinda obvious it's not gonna be low 40's during the day in early october .., No commment

4. Stop being a wise ass

Really? Who's being a wise ass?

the track was destroying tires. we went through 4 sets on another top fuel car. every top fuel car was chunking them.

Back in, I believe it was '89, it got REALLY cold in Brainerd. I'll see if I can find out how cold it was. But I do beleive that weekend resulted in the first 4 second et for the track.

1990 Joe Amato first in the 4s 4.99 semi final racing Gary Ormsby. Right lane. :D Came back in the final with a bye over Frank Bradley and ran 4.97.

That was a special weekend for me, it was the first time my Grandpa ever went to a drag race.

lance, think this is the race i'm remembering and i'm wrong about the e.t.'s;
you are right.

paul, very much remember 1990 bir; it was cold all day - was really upset
when frank couldn't make the final but joe was flying that day.
this was the one year frank had ez-wider sponsorship and the
'e-z wider' gal that hung in his pits was nothing short of spectacular.
joe & frank traded low e.t. all day until joe finally broke thru into 4's
as you mentioned in semi's and final w/4.97
man i miss those days.

Winner Circle at BIR 1990. Me and my sister with Steve Gibbs, Miss Winston, Joe and Gere Amato, and a super happy Quaker State guy handing over a 15K check to the Valvoline team. :D
