Thursday test numbers (4 Viewers)

Clay Millican Nhra stats past 10 years:

Total wins 8
Most in a single year 3 (2023)
US Nationals wins 1 (2024)
Final rounds 28
Finished in the top 10 in points 9 out of 10 years (2016-2025) best finish 3rd (2018)
One of only three drivers in Nhra history to record a 3.62 second elasped time
Fastest speed 338.26
2026 will be Clay's 28th year racing in TF in both the Ihra and Nhra
From 2000-2006 Clay won six consecutive Ihra championships a record that still stands and 52 event wins
Again…I was responding to a previous post, #23, the last sentence only. Not talking any crap about Millican. He is what he is. He dominated IHRA but was not successful initially when he came to the NHRA. That was the gist of the last sentence of post 23

Just to clarify you responded to the last sentence of post # 28. I just disagreed with the sentence Still hasn't done much. in your post # 29.

No harm no foul, just wanted to point out what Clay has done in the previous 10 years. RWR is the first team that he has driven for in the Nhra that actually has the funding and personal to compete with the big guys.

Post #28 by Harry Canoles: "Remember how a couple TF guys ruled the IHRA but when they came to NHRA they didn't do squat for several years".
Post #29 by You: "Like Milligan? Still hasn’t done much".

I guess since testing is done, it wouldn't hurt to drop a comment or so on Clay but in a light I prefer to see him in.
He was raised right and doesn't take offense to being called a hillbilly or probably much else, runs off his back like a duck do...lol!
Just like saying he is what he is is correct IMO too - but he's a fierce competitor and has been for decades, a great proponent of the sport and you'll have a hell of a time finding a better ambassador available for comment, take a look around & see. A avid and active competitor.
Whether in competition or match race ~ all racers are there to put on a show if they can, right? Or is that no longer a requirement?
For the people that don't like Clay or just downright rag on the guy...
From burnouts in front of the Graceland residence to wild blow overs, he ain't no quitter Oh and he didn't back down from Doug!
I have liked him since the glory days of the I side (that's an AR term idn't it?) and we met him moons ago way before he put a US Nats under his belt & I even believed my wife was emailing a PR person the first time we met him!
As many races as my wife & I taped in our earlier days, we only ever took up hospitality with Clay a few times, definitely not because of the food - but the rare opportunity to spend some quiet time with a really cool guy, IDK about the general population here but I have never been invited into the driver's quarters to goof off a little before the socks & suit have to come out.
Clay:
WYSIWYG

Recognizing folks for what they aren't usually isn't the right thing to do either - but if you can spare about two min or so, you'll possibly better understand why so many people do like him. I do.
Positive things people, it's all good.
The bit about the 300+ MPH runs sums up what this rather tenacious Tennessee guy is made of.
Funny as hell too.

:)

I wasn't ragging on Clay or Doug, just pointing out that it took quite some time for them to get a win on the NHRA side of the sport.
After dominating in the IHRA, this to me shows the difference in the competition between IHRA and NHRA.

I certainly wasn't referring to you in particular Harry and you'll find no disagreement from me that NHRA typically has the best cars running any circuit but the average person doesn't care if they go 300 or 340 as long as it's louder than hell, smoky burnouts, flames shooting up and if there's a crash, everyone wants to see it. the spectators came to be entertained and the past competition events doesn't accurately reflect the current situation to compare to IMO.

Just to clarify Clay is a flatlander so he is a technically a redneck. If you live in the mountains you are a hillbilly. I've been educated by my wife who was born in West Virginia. I was born in Illinois where we live, she will always be a hillbilly and I a flatlander even if we moved back to the mountains.

Sounds about right Brian - but I think Clay maintains he's an East side river rat (under glass).
Either way, he ain't lookin' at oil pressure at 300+ MPH - he's too busy racin'.

Good call Joe. 👌
I was curious if he would still use the mirror he's used for decades when they warm up with the canopy and I am glad to see he is. 👍
Most experienced guys don't need a stop and in the rare occasion they forget the stop is where experience takes over rather than a clutch getting hotter than desired or much worse.

pretty sure that's correct. When Austin Prock drove the car for them he had to adjust to no throttle stop burnout.
Me three.
We can't get in contact with him like we could 20-25 yrs ago, or I'd ask.
I agree and it sounds just like Clay, he's old skool on so many things and that's definitely worth fan points too IMO.
How often do you see him NOT be able to back up? The mirror doesn't lie in this case! ;)
