That used to happen at San Fernando. They would mistake it for the airport next door.Back in the day we were at the starting line (staging) for the TF semifinal at Amarillo when a single engine plane set down on the track. No emergency or problem on his part but created a big problem for everyone else. Got much worse when he tried to take off
That is just nuts. Two words you never want to hear from your pilot "watch this".

Had a similar deal at Barona last month. Plane followed the drag strip but never set it down. Went over the sand trap and into the canyon at the end of the track and disappeared. Everyone was waiting for the big one that never came. Fire dept figured that the pilot followed the canyon and flew on his merry way. If you have ever seen the canyon it took some huge ones to do that.![]()
It's been there a while. Went part concrete back in 2010.There's a drag strip in Iceland...?
I remember for a few years he used to fly into Etown in a small jet, at the airport next to the pits. It was a hoot watching him take off.Didn't Connie used to fly into some races. Land on the track and taxie off to the side and park it.
We flew into E town for about ten years and every year Conrad was also there, I would doubt he has changed his routine. That was the greatest way to get in and out of that race.I remember for a few years he used to fly into Etown in a small jet, at the airport next to the pits. It was a hoot watching him take off.
RG, a huge prop?![]()
