THE POTENTIAL IS OBVIOUS

MECHANICSVILLE, MD – Although still struggling to get to the winner’s circle with the Gainsborough Capital-backed ’67 Camaro; Danny Rowe and crew took a shot at the track Saturday night in the final qualifying attempt and laid down a career-best 6.023 at 238.76mph to become the number three qualifier.

“It’s been a real struggle this season,” Rowe said. “Every now and then the car shows serious potential, but we just haven’t dialed in the consistency it takes to race with the hitters here in the IHRA. Pro Modified is as tough as ever and we’ve got to adjust our program to fit the level of competition. We showed we’ve got the power in Saturday night’s qualifying session.”

Going into Sunday’s elimination rounds, Rowe and Rector were both confident that they had finally struggled onto a race-winning setup. Danny Rowe would face off with veteran nitrous competitor Jim Halsey in the first round; Rowe got the easy win as Halsey red-lighted. Rowe’s 6.269/221.02mph combination wasn’t what the team was looking for, but they were on to the 2nd round, regardless.

The second round of action would have Jason Hamstra in the lane opposing Danny Rowe; the two cars left together, but Rowe went into severe tire shake and was forced to lift on the throttle – handing the win over to Hamstra.

“This was a bit of a moral victory for the team, to qualify well and run strong,” explained Rowe. “That does a lot for our confidence and lets us know that we have what it takes to be out here. I know we’ve got the power, we’ve got the car, we just have to translate that into success and consistency on Sunday and we’re golden. At this point, we just have to wait and see how things go in Rockingham.”

Leaving Maryland, Rowe remains 8th in the IHRA Pro Modified World Championship point standings.
