Some may remember my thread from September of last year after a bad outing at the 50th Nitro Nationals at Tulsa Raceway Park. We torched a piston which led to an engine explosion that tossed the body at least 75 feet into the air. Fortunately our driver, Rick Krafft, was unhurt.
Our all-volunteer team has spent the last year rebuilding the car.
We finally were able to test fire the engine last Thursday. On Friday we loaded up and headed to Tulsa for the 51st Nitro Nationals. Five nitro funny cars were in attendance. We didn't get to run Friday due to rain. Saturday was warm and humid.
We ended up racing the Blue Max tribute car in the final round. They ran a 6.05 @ 230, while we ran a shut off 6.21 @ 204.
Regardless, we had an absolute blast. Nobody on the team was disappointed getting beat by the Blue Max. Those were some great people. We just were glad to make two trouble free runs.
Unfortunately, the FC pitted next to us blew its engine around 1000 foot and went all the way to the end of that long track completely engulfed in flames. The driver suffered burns on his hands but thankfully survived.
Anyway, here is our run against the Blue Max as shot by my wife.
