Bobby.....
What is with "According to various sources close to the PRO org" If you can not say who these sources are than why print the story? It just makes you guys sound like so many of the other slezey "News" sources out there.
Just more NHRA bashing.:(

It's not news, it's in the "Rumor Mill" section. I'm sure if it were in the news section Bobby would site his sources.

and if you the source out of the bag.. then no more inside info.... Bobbys stuff in the Rumor area is usualy dead on..... more than most ....

Wasn't "Deep Throat".. an anoumous source that brought down Nixon?...

Heroism Project | 1970s | Woodward & Bernstein

During their reporting, they left the legacy of 'Deep Throat' who anonymously provided them with the highly political source. They would not reveal the identity of the source so far.

Guess that makes the Washington Post sleazy too. Guess that makes half of the major newspapers in the country sleazy too.

Check our track record ...

Are you saying that the Washington Post has never used sleazy reporting practices? And I would say more than half of the major newspapers have also used sleazy reporting tactics.
I guess if someone has done it before it is OK to do.
Did anyone from your org. attempt to contact someone from PRO that is in a position to give an answer if this rumor is true? How about NHRA?
I guess what bothers me Bobby about these kind of rumours is the sport of drag racing is about to go thru some very tough times, along with all motorsports, I think if we all put aside our differences and pull together things will work out in the end. What possible good can come from spreading dirt about NHRA and PRO?
I sure hope that Don Schumacher comes on this thread and sets the record straight.
And by the way, you do have a pretty good track record!;)

For the record, yes we did try to contact PRO who followed their standard practice of not discussing anything with the media.

Anyone who has read our magazine for a length of time knows that we aren't afraid to tackle the tough subjects.

I stand by what was published.

I love drag racing with all my heart and I've poured my life for the last ten years into CompetitionPlus.com as a means of providing race fans with a measure of "insider" information for the sport.

Good, bad or indifferent ... we still have to report the news as it affects drag racing.

In the past if something was reported erroneous -- Don hasn't had a problem coming on here and setting the record straight.

This item was posted a week ago and there hasn't been a rebuttal.

Does that tell you something? :D

Keep up the great work Bobby most of us appreciate it.

Well you have backed your tune up off of the rev limiter for that I'll give you some credit.

However you need know of what you speak about Bobby and the state of affairs we have. And you ain't quite there yet hoss.

I can vouch for Bobby on all fronts, honoring anonimity when needed so people can KEEP a job, integrity, honesty, and even admitting he was wrong in the rare case or two when something needed fixing. He fixed it and made it right immediatly front page and center.

Bobby checks sources and does his very damned best to make sure before he lays out anything to the masses. I challenge you to find one case where the opposite exists in Bobby or his staffs reports or integrity.

Yeah it would be just peachy keen great to go sing folk songs at NHRA in Glendora and have some Ho Ho's and Twinkies for snacks but you need ALL parties including the playground cops to participate. That sir is just not going to happen! Not until something called competition arrives, irony considering racing is competiton but I digress.

And that competition thing for NHRA ain't really happened since Jim Tice and effectively AHRA the only real competition NHRA ever had died. Billy Meier tried but 53 or some damned amazing number weekends of rain in a row shot that in the butt.

Competition back when a racer was paid halfway and treated decent and everyone knew you only need piss them off and they could pull to another venue next week. Read up a little on some history about it. It is out there. Talk to some older folks oh say like this Don Schumacher person you speak of. He was in attendance at those meets in those days. I saw him there as well a bunch still out on the circus tour.

And yes, it would be very nice to hear from "Don of the Dark" it has been a while. I am sure he must have done something else wrong or violated something or had to pay another fine since his last visit here. Taking Ozzy Osbourne's "Prince of Darkness" title away almost it seems. Dude is nothing but trouble.

As well it would have been nice to see a Frank Bradley or the like as the head of PRO. Does it not still stand for Professional Racers Organization? Ahh but who is "the man" (or heavy hand) truly pulling the strings behind the curtain (organization)?

See Paul there is more to people not racing and dealing with things than just the economy, retirement etc. Many have just decided to quit and go play golf or boats or...things have been brewing and boiling for a very long time in our sport. Just go in search of a few (a lot more than a few) who just gave up on fighting every damn little thing in drag racing to truly say "And they walked away".

Things need fixin.

Jim.....
...... While I certainly appreciate your walk down memory lane, I suspect I walked that road many years before you. I got into drag racing in 1958 and have been involved since that time, and no, I was not 6 yrs old I was 19 years old and in the military that year. While I respect your sticking up for your friend Bobby what bothers me is the condescending manner that you responded to me. Every issue you brought up is indeed old news, While I certainly do not agree with most of it I respect your opinion and can only hope that you can at least respect my opinion also.
Thanks, Paul:)

Take what you want from my post. Bobby is I guess a friend but as he will vouch I pull no punches with him either. (Hell he probably likes vingar based BBQ so he ain't exactly like kin folk with me) (Easy now I eat it too when I go east)

Unfortunately I was born and grew up in the traveling circus and it is quite possible we crossed paths over time. Should sue parent for that deal. Ain't exactly new nor my first rodeo either. My math from your post puts me just a little over 20 years behind you if your 69.

First National race? Indy 63' still have the event shirt!

Every issue old news? Sure you can call it that. But still the same it is current news and damned relevent to fixing the very issues you talked about. The bashing or not getting along. Broken record that has been for around 15 years.

History and the fact it keeps repeating. Hide the skeltons in the closet and put granny in the attic. Don't talk about issues or problems. Ignore it and it will go away. The current state of affairs has been brewing and brewing for a long time. It is going away in effect, at the cost of people who put the show on walking away.

For this sport to survive and grow it needs to be a cooperative effort. Not just keep changing things and pushing all of the costs to the fans and team owners. Management needs to admit they need the employees, the customers, and listen to the janitor who really runs things in the back.

My last three jobs out there have gone away due to:
1) Sponsor being poached (woo'd right out from under with full knowledge of powers that be).
2) Rule changes that absolutely made no sense driving costs beyond a reasonable weekend $20K budget just to try and qualify.
3) Get an almost new car (6 month old record holding car) Then get hit with oh it needs updates, needs more updates, get new update...broken record.

And we keep going with like Bobby Laganas post about 3/8" valve cover studs. Why?

I have no beef with you personally. But Bobby and staff report the news and situations very damn well. And they are not affiliated nor held to house rules. He may have struck a nerve with you and that is good he did his job.

And if we as a collective group cannot admit there are issues and talk about it, then it is time to do as we have. Sell it all to go find another place to make or put money, or play.

I'll close with this. If Bobby can do what others have been fired for in the past by telling the truth or speaking out against things that need speaking we are all the better.

Get close to here Paul I'll buy you a real BBQ dinner and we can talk more. No vinegar and the sauce on the side! Sorry Bobby!

While we are on the subject of telling it like it is --

We all know BBQ came from the south and you Texans took our idea out there and screwed it all up.

Who BBQ's beef anyway? lol

WOW! This thread is making me..............hungry!!! :D

Wonder how hard it will be to find good BBQ here in Lafayette???

Well lets call a pig a pig bobby:) actually if memory serves me correct BBQ comes from the caribbean from the word BARBACOA, back in the late 1600's. It then came over to the 'dirty' with those slave workers and became the word barbeque. The caribbean people usually would bbq a goat, ya'll improved it a bit by switching to swine:) but i believe the settlers in maryland were the ones who really made it good by roasting the ox as far back as the mid 1700's. Some german settlers headed out west and settled in central texas in the mid 1800's. They brought their ox roasting with them:) so actually the folks from MARYLAND are the ones to blame or thank:)
