The Bazemore Bulletin

Inaugural Summit Racing Equipment Nationals
June 28-July 1, 2007
Summit Racing Motorsports Park
Norwalk, Ohio

“I have really good memories of racing at Norwalk . It’s been a long time, but I did race there. I ran Funny Car in 1989 and ‘90. Norwalk was actually the first race that Gary Evans and I competed with our own team. We went there with the following spare parts, one

connecting rod, two wrist pins and two intake and exhaust pushrods. And, we went to the second round. I’m curious to see the changes and how Norwalk has shaped up because they now have the elite of drag racing competing there.

“We’re looking forward to competing this weekend. Fortunes can change quickly in this sport. We’re working hard to change our fortunes. We’ll have a lot of Matco Tools guests at the race this weekend, so we want to do well for them.”

Last weekend in Englishtown , N.J. , Bazemore qualified his Matco Tools rail sixth with a 4.521-second pass. He set a track speed record at 332.51 mph. It was his fastest speed in a Top Fuel dragster and first 330-mph speed in a dragster.

He enters the Norwalk race ranked 10th in the NHRA Top Fuel

standings. He trails teammate Rod Fuller by 248 points. He is 32 points behind Bob Vandergriff, Jr. for the coveted eighth position in the standings. There are seven races remaining before the Countdown to the Championship begins with the U.S. Nationals on Sept. 3.

Last June, Bazemore qualified fourth at National Trail Raceway near Columbus with a run of 4.741-seconds. He drove to a runner-up finish. It was his 44th career final-round appearance. He was a two-time

finalist at the Columbus race (1997, ‘06).

In late March, Bazemore became the 15th driver in NHRA history to earn poles in both Top Fuel and Funny Car. He has 30 career pole awards, 21 of them coming with Lee Beard as crew chief. Bazemore has an average starting position of 7.3 this season.

He and Beard have combined to win 12 races together.

Bazemore has clocked Low E.T. of the Meet honors 25 times and earned the Top Speed of the Meet award 22 times in his career.
