When the Cal Hot Rod reunion had the very bright idea to hold the first cacklefest, it was a hallmark and highly emotional moment for me and Mrs. Top Fuel@Lions. That Saturday was a hum-dinger. Getting to the point. The Mrs. really felt the emotion and fire I had for that era and in particular, my time at Lions.
If I remember it was around 8 to 10 cars. I wanted to really feel the vibe and cars so we were on the pit side fence. When this cacklefest went down I kinda lost it, some of the cars I'd seen in the day were before me. Halfway thru it I turned around and saw the entire grandstand standing, geezers like me in "our" element. I had light tears running down the old cheeks. The Mrs. looked around and saw geezers as well. She never saw front engine AA/FD's. She was tearing up as well since she knew how this event hit me, she said this. "Now I see what you mean about these cars, the era, and why you are so passionate about Lions."
Push started font engine dragsters, oh how sweet!
