They got some tracks like that down here in the South. I don't know if any of you have been to the track in Mobile, AL. It's 600' dragstrip and 400' shutdown. You can barely run a super comp car, but if you do you better be on the brakes at the line. And there's no sand trap, but there's a bunch of pine trees waiting for you.

The thing to remember is when most of those 1/8 tracks in the South were built, 4 sec. cars never ran on them. 6-7 maybe....So all o a sudden you have 3 sec/190mph cars and they can't stop???

The shutdown area at the Radford track was lengthened before this season. A classic example of an older track that used to be plenty long, but not any more.

While that track is pretty short, it appears to me that many of those drivers need to learn when to pull the chute.
On a short shutdown track like that the chute should be blossomed at the finish line.

You can talk about this subject until the proverbial cows come home, but it still boils down to one thing, and one thing only: DRIVERS are the ones who must make the difficult decision as to whether or not a track is safe enough to race on. DRIVERS must be emotionally strong enough to resist the temptation to prove their manhood by racing on unsafe tracks. DRIVERS must tell their car owners that driving isn't worth their lives, and unless the team owner takes their advice on withdrawing a car from competing on an unsafe track, the team owner should find someone else to drive for them. DRIVERS are the ones who, when faced with an unsafe but fixable situation, must force the issue with sanctioning body officials and track management.

It does us no good whatsoever to rant about unsafe tracks LONG AS THEIR ARE DRIVERS WHO ARE NOT INTELLIGENT ENOUGH TO SAY "HEY! THIS PLACE IS UNSAFE, AND I'M NOT RACING HERE!"

Well the ADRL pulled that track from the schedule, so I'm sure Driver's imput played a role in that.
