"Summer Nationals" name....

Glad I'm not the only one who collects event pins on here. How many you up to? I had a guy offer me 30 bucks for the 1987 Summernationals pin I had. I quickly and steadfastly turned it down.

I've got 72 event pins..only events that I have attended dating back to 1984. Two events I didn't get pins for because of sponsor problems. Englishtown in the 90's was one and I can't remember the other. I've attended the Cajun Nats., Dallas, Houston, St. Louis, E-town, Memphis and Indy over the years.

the first time I went to an NHRA National Event was the last time it was the Summernationals in 1992, haven't missed an E-Town Nationals Since, I'm 25 years old and this will be my 19th consecutive appearance.

Call me nostalgic but I miss the days where events and places (in general, not specifically NHRA) had names that did not have corporations behind the naming...

One could mention 3 rivers stadium and associate it with Pittsburgh (the confluence of the Ohio River), Forbes Field, Wrigley Field.. and so on...

In drag racing, names like Cajun Nationals, Gatornationals, Summernationals, Mile High Nationals etc etc... Then they started tacking on sponsor names... it was the Mac Tools Gatornationals, Mopar Parts Mile High Nationals.... which I guess wasnt a big deal, you could still associate the name with the track / event..

Nowadays there are alot of races where its a sponsor with the "NHRA Nationals" name attached..

Wish they were more creative... maybe lame but I always thought the Paul Bunyan Nationals would fit the Brainerd race.. the event t shirts from several years ago had a big ass Paul Bunyan on them.

Worst event name of all time in my opinion the "Virginia is for Lovers Nationals"... huh?

nick, always thought 'lucas oil northstar nationals' would sound good.
moniker for race was great in inception, brought back
once for 'visionair northstar nationals' (year?), then gone again

I forgot about that Northstar name they had the one year. Another odd thing was the corporate name attached to it... Wasn't Visionaire an airplane company? I wouldn't think the average NHRA fan would have enough money to buy a private plane..

yes they were and no, don't think their sponsor of that event was for the fans.
brand awareness for racers/teams that do have demanding schedules
and extensive travel

Hey, the State was the Sponsor, and some Advertising Clown came up with that as a State slogan... Living here, that made us cringe every time we heard it... And believe me, Virginia is anything but...

d'kid
