STEVENS MOVES TO SECOND PLACE IN TOP ALCOHOL CHAMPIONSHIP

Drag Racing champ Brett 'The Boss' Stevens kept his recent blistering form in the Australian Top Alcohol Championship going during the Boxing Day Drag Racing event at the Western Sydney International Dragway on December26/27.

Racing his Kitten Car Care Products Funny Car against the countries best, Stevens nailed the number one Qualifying position, meaning he has now Top Qualified in every event he has contested in the bracket for the season.

His 5.61 second time for the quarter mile was also run at an incredible 257.58mph (414.53 kph) giving him the quickest and fastest times in category for the entire event.

After convincingly winning through the Elimination rounds to the Final, Stevens was the odds on favourite to take home the winners trophy, but had to settle for the runner up position after Sydney's Wayne Newby pulled out his best run of the weekend to pip Stevens by just 4 thousandths of a second.

"We were really happy with our first qualifier, we had just kept on going from where we left off during the last round of the Championship," Stevens said.

"The track and weather conditions were great for racing so on our second qualifier we tried to turn it up a bit to run a 5.5 (second pass), but fuel system shut off at around 300 feet torching the pistons meaning we had to do a complete engine change."

"We had everything back together for the Eliminations and were confident we could go on with the job, but unfortunately for us in the Final, Wayne(Newby) just got me on the lights and won by only 4 thousandths of a second."

"It is a little disappointing to lose by such a small margin but we have now moved to second in the National Championship and with 3 Rounds remaining are still a shot at the title, so all of our focus will now be on this."

Stevens is now hoping to keep this form going into the New Year when he lines up his Kitten Car Care Products Ford Mustang Funny Car again at Willowbank Raceway for the National Open 'Night Fire on January 5/6.

The National Open will feature three Group One brackets including Round 4 of the Australian Top Fuel Championship, Round 5 of the Australian Top Alcohol Championships and Round 3 of the Australian Pro Stock Motorcycle Championship over two action packed nights with the first event of 2007 shaping up to be a blockbuster event.

Also racing for the Brett Stevens Racing team at the National Open is former dirt track motorbike Champion Dion Prowse, who boasts a 100 percent strike rate in his debut season of ANDRA Championship Drag Racing aboard the teams S&S powered Pro Stock Buell Motorcycle.

The rookie directed the S&S bike to a sensational Championship debut win at Sydney's East Coast Nationals during September, before backing up that performance with a similar result at his home track in Queensland two weeks later at the Australian Nationals.

"Every time the Brett Stevens Racing team takes a vehicle to the race track, whether it is a car or a bike, it is there to win and it has been no different for me on the S&S powered Buell," Prowse said.

"We put a lot of time and effort in to make sure that I knew all about the bike and how to ride it before my professional debut in September and it has paid off in a big way, to be two wins from two events in its first season in the Pro Stock Motorcycle bracket is just unbelievable."

"After a couple of months lay off I am going to be concentrating all of my efforts now on making sure that we have every chance of continuing our form in the new year and for the rest of the season."

"The bike has had a complete service and I am itching to get back out there and hopefully reward the people that have shown their faith in me by going all the way in the Championship."
