The Reed Racing drag team will be coming home to Brisbane for an assault on Willowbank Raceway’s Nightfire Spectacular from January 5-6, however it will only be team principle Steven Reed hitting the track at the event in his 3500 horsepower Funny Car with wife Debbie Reed having sitting out due to damaged sustained at the last round of the Championship.
As the team’s sole Top Alcohol entry, Steven will be flying the flag high for Reed Racing and really putting the pressure on himself to perform with all of the team’s resources being allocated to putting the Funny Car in the winners circle.
“We are now in the back half of the season and we really want to build some momentum in 2008 to give ourselves the best possible chance in the Championship race after an eventful weekend in Sydney last time out.”
“With our local knowledge in Queensland and our proven track setups, along with the consistency we are now starting to get with some of our new engine systems, we will be pushing the envelope at Willowbank to build on our recent form.”
“As the only entry from the Reed Racing camp we will also be able to focus all of our energies on gunning for a good result and clawing my way up the Championship ladder.”
“I am currently sitting amongst the leaders in 5th spot but with a good result I will really be able to make a move towards the top.”
During Round 4 of the Australian Top Alcohol Championship in Sydney earlier in the month Debbie Reed suffered her first major accident of her professional Drag Racing career after an oil line failed on her 3500 horsepower Dragster at over 400 kph causing a spectacular crash.
Despite walking away from the accident and eager to get back behind the wheel, the team have been unable to get her car back in race ready condition in such a short turnaround time and over the Christmas break.
“It is extremely disappointing for me to have to sit out (of a Championship Round), but it was just not possible for us to get the Dragster back ready to race in what is one of the toughest professional Drag Racing brackets in Australia.”
“The plan for Willowbank’s Nightfire Spectacular is to consolidate our racing inventory and focus on getting Steven up there challenging for the event win and gain as many points in the National Championship as possible.”
“After the event we will again re-evaluate where we stand and make some decisions on the best way for the team to get me back out there on track as soon as possible.”
