Working on a stats website that will not be the typical and harder to find stats. Some are beyond my reach as well.

Who are the crew chiefs who have won championships in both nitro classes? Only Tobler comes to mind.

I know Coil has 17 titles and 139 wins, I think AJ tops that with 4 titles less of course.

Coming back to tuners that have been successful in both, Jimmy Prock I feel confident saying is the all time leader in most FC/TF wins.

These stats will be recorded in detail soon. My biggest issue is it is a stretch for me to find stats older than about 1995 in specfic detail when this is all DIY and no access to the few graces with Bob Frey's software.

My goal as a fan is to have database info that is a free drag-opedia if you will and for not the simple and easy who was "this year's" champ.

There is more to come. The license on my stats book is mine again and I may publish the interviews here.

Sounds interesting ! Best of luck in your endeavor, Patrick.

Find some of the NHRA media guides, could be more of what you are looking for. I dont think they print them anymore but you might find older ones.

He did? He wasnt still with Mac in 93? I thought he started tuning in only 1992.
Prock tuned for Cory Mac for a couple of races towards the end of 1991, then 92-93. He moved to Amato's team in 1994, which is where his championship wins in Top Fuel came from. Cory never won a championship although he came close.

Jimmy Prock won championships in both categories. Tuning for Amato in top fuel.
Joe’s 5th and last championship was 1992. Jimmy started with Joe in 94. Unfortunately they never won the championship together, but 97-99 they really put up a fight.

Hate to beat a dead horse but if Cory Mac had just shown up in Canada, the show up points alone would have won Cory/ Jimmy the championship in 92. Who would have known Joe and Tim would split, and KB / Armstrong would lose the handle on the car so bad.

I started collecting race results for the Nostalgia Top Fuel class roughly three years ago for what will someday become a similar web based database for my AAFD Stats page. Running the AAFD page for just over the past year has really opened doors for old data that isn't easily found. It is a LARGE undertaking, and I have and do feel the pain that you no doubt feel at times. Luckily for me, my research only starts around the 1984 time frame, decades short of your starting point. One of the research tools I use is the Wayback Machine site. You can search long gone websites for some really great info. Although, anything prior to the 1998-2000ish time frame is sort of a black hole, as that is when the internet was just starting to fire on all cylinders.

good call on leonard hughes alan. first i think with one of the candies and hughes TF'rs, had to have been early to mid 80's? settles or tharp driving?
then capturing title with m. oswald driven FC, was it 'old milwaukee' on side of trans-am/pontiac body car, maybe somewhere '85 - '87?

i think KB won TF title in year blaine was lost? dale was still with KB then i think?

rahn tobler with shirley and ron capps?

was mike green a CC with cruz on any of cruz's wins? then tuning tony schumacher on maybe his last title with army TF'r?

I think Fedderly joined Minor's team after he'd tuned Capp at Indy.
yes. did one of the combos win a championship? gary beck was the hired driver back then. team orders to make sure gary won if
he and larry came up against each other. there's a video out there somewhere where larry almost tried to stop on the track to let gary by, but larry took the round.

Got a call yesterday from a drag racing lifer who pays attention to such things and he told me that there are really only three crew chiefs that have won a Championship in both fuel classes.

Leonard Hughes, Dale Armstrong, and Rahn Tobler all won as Crew Chief in both classes.

Tim Richards was heavily involved with the Bruce Larson championship, but he was not the CC, Maynard Yingst was. Lee Beard was team manager when Cruz won his 1st, but he was not the CC. If you go specifically by who was the CC of record, there are three that have won championships in both.

i think bernie might belong on that list. doing a little searching this morning, there is an article about canadian drag racing hall of fame.
it discusses his involvement with terry capps and then minor racing. his deal with capps was 1981. article states he went to work with minor racing the following year,
and was there with gary beck for the next three seasons (1982 thru 1984). the article does not specifically say he won a title with gary, but later in article
states bernie was 2nd CC to win in both classes. (joined JFR in 1993 for john's 3rd championship)
if you count coil as john's only CC, then i get it, bernie does not count; but if you count bernie and coil as co-crew chiefs, then bernie does become 2nd member of exclusive club.
gary beck wins championship in 1984 (quick search of nhra champions)
article also mentions bernie still being with minor racing in beginning of 1992 on cruz's FC, but did not finish season? who was the CC for
cruz at end of 1992 for cruz's first championship? can't think of his name, but it's the same guy who ran lori john's deal......i think?
also - when cruz won 2nd championship in 1998, was rahn tobler possibly involved there as well? so he would have FC titles with both cruz and ron capps?
