Good racing; lots of drama but for reasons that escape me that track never was quite right on Sunday. It wasn't hot; mid 60s with cloud cover at the E1 kickoff and mid 70s with cloud cover during the semis and finals. I don't believe the track ever got over 110. Yet there were more than a few smokers - Kalitta, Reed, Stewart, Hart, Millican, Gordon, Prock, Vandergriff, Capps, Beckman, Wilkerson, Hyde - and during the later rounds several Pro Stocks were doing the watusi. Not one TF pass the entire weekend in the 60s and only two 3.80 passes in FC, both 3.89.

Didn't make for a bad weekend, not at all. I simply expected better from one of NHRA's big-number tracks given the favorable conditions.

Jordon made three 3.80s in qualifying and qualified #1 at 3.84
And TF losing the Friday Prime Time session was the reason for no 3.60s

Indeed, things were rockin' along up until the incident with Millican Friday night. Q3 saw only 5 TF cars make non-smoking passes; Q4 saw only 5 TF cars make non-amoking full passes. And given the conditions, especially on Sunday, there were no 3.60s because the tuners knew the track likely wouldn't hold one, not because the conditions weren't sufficient for one. Looking at the times the grip was weak in the area when the clutches go 1-1 and the tuners were trying to compensate for it. Quite a few didn't compensate enough. Both classses, not just TF.

Just an observation, that's all. I believe everyone enjoyed the race despite the slower numbers.
